Has anyone else ever run into the problem where all they have for a fic is a sort of vague premise and some lines they’d like to include, but they don’t know how to tie it together into a cohesive plot?

^ I am loving ALL of these!!! I love the idea of Padma and Hestia Jones teaching DADA.  Personally though, I kind of like the idea of having just one or two canon characters that we know, and the rest being entirely new. If JK wrote a new series based on Albus' experiences in Hogwarts, I'd look forward to meeting new teachers and seeing what they were like. Whilst I'd be here for the nostalgia of having the old teachers there too...it'd wear off eventually.  One head canon I always see on tumblr that I LOVE...is Harry teaching. Why JK made Harry want to be an auror I'll never know. Harry's always wanted to be 'just harry' and wanted a job that isn't dangerous. He'd have a name and reputation as an auror, which again, makes no sense to me.  Harry would make a BRILLIANT defence teacher. He proved himself in Dumbledore's Army, and I think he'd be great with any kind of student. He'd show them the care and compassion that perhaps the Dursley's (aka his family) didn't...but that his TEACHERS did. I think the only teachers that have ever let him down, are his defence ones (minus remus). He'd take the position to do a better job than the others ever did.  At first people would be very much like "omg that's harry potter, tell us about how you killed you know who"
I think he'd tell that story once to the first years (not graphic because they're 11/12) and then that'd be it. No more questions, we're gonna learn defence.  Eventually ten years later, he'd be remembered as Professor Potter, the teacher who helped me go from a T to an E in just one school year, or Professor Potter - who literally only uses one spell in duelling club (seriously has no one told him that there are others out there??? He should know HE TEACHES DEFENCE FGS) rather than being remembered for his war effort. Also it would be so hilarious to see Harry like, well you know who's gone....so really this will be pretty calm, nothing too dramatic will happen.
Then of course it's Hogwarts, and there's students like Harry running around and he's just like [looks off into the distance] Why am i like this?    ......the tumblr post sells it better than I do, but you get the picture. I know people will give me 10001 reasons why Harry shouldn't teach, but I really think he should. I don't see him as Headmaster, maybe Head of Gryffindor one day. I just don't see him as the ambitious sort, and being an auror would take great ambition.

I kinda think there has been kind of a turnover since the War. Wars are disruptive. I also suspect 30 years of war and rumors of war may have kept some professors in place a little longer/delaying retirement. I also picture Neville being the youngest teacher. I like the idea of Sprout or Flitwick as headmaster, particularly Flitwick. I agree Slughorn would be retired. Ones I've toyed with but never used-- Andromeda Tonks as charms professor and head of Slytherin and possibly even headmistress. In conjunction, I thought of an OC muggle brother in law teaching muggle studies who is a retired muggle school teacher.  I still like the idea of a Muggle muggle studies professor and a Slytherin with "good" credentials being in charge. I've thought of including this with Andromeda being the 'new' professor, starting after Teddy's out of school. Simular situation for Cho and her muggle. The ones I'm using-- Audrey Weasley as muggle studies professor. I toyed with making muggle studies a required subject for next gen students and then making Audrey either head of Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. This evolved by me explaining why Percy is on the platform 19 years latter in spite of Molly and Lucy being the youngest Weasley cousins. I have three Audrey related OC's (her brother and nieces) and it was important that one of those nieces be the same age as Rose/Albus. Binns somehow being replaced as History of Magic teacher. My teacher is a Canadian because one of the effects of having Binns as History of Magic Teacher is nobody in Britian is qualified to teach history of magic.  The ones I've read and loved-- Padma Patil as DADA professor and Ravenclaw head. In the front of her classroom, a faded, moth eaten, Gryffindor scarf hangs as silent testament as to why she teaches. Binns being replaced because he wouldn't hold to the Deatheater version of history (not out of bravery, but by being set in his ways) and being exorcised. I love the idea of Professor Clearwater.
