HP Character-based Recommendations / Myrtle Warren
« Last post by Dojh167 on June 22, 2017, 11:22:38 PM »
Title: Dear Myrtle
Author: Stella Blue
Link(s): HPFT (T)
Length / Completed: One shot, 634 words
Pairing(s): N/A
Genre(s): Angst, Drama
Summary: Fifteen years pass, and Olive Hornby is not the same.
Reasons for recommending: (optional) This story does a great job of focusing in on Moaning Myrtle. It does not exactly make you love her, as she becomes a pretty awful bully, but it does make you know her, in away that is really intense and well done for such a minor character. She is incredibly human, even as a ghost and Kristin does an excellent job with her characterization.

Title: The Sword of Gryffindor
Author: Victoria_Anne
Link(s): T
Length / Completed: Yes, one shot, 1040 words
Main Character(s):Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin
Main Pairing(s): None
Genre(s): General
Summary: "I promise that you will always be wielded by a Gryffindor."
Reasons for recommending: (optional) This is a really interesting story abut how Godric acquired his sword. Touching upon the relationship between the founders in such few words, this is a fun, interesting read!

Title: The Interventionist Society
Author: sapphicsunrise
Link(s): M
Length / Completed: No, currently 720 words.
Pairing(s): None
Genre(s): Action/Adventure
Summary: This is a really interesting take on how WW1 impacted  wizards, and how it affected them as a society. It's only got one chapter up so far, but it looks set to be a really interesting story!
I'll write chapter 5 of 'Out of Magical World', Cho Chang centric one. Taker.

Title:  Thestrals
Author: 800 Words Of Heaven
Link(s): HPFT (M)
Length / Completed: short story, 3 chapters, 1506 words
Pairing(s): None
Genre(s): Angst, Dark/Horror, Drama, General, Hurt/Comfort
Three eras. Three people. Three stories.

One thing in common.

Reasons for recommending: Beyond this excellent characterization, the overall structure of this story is excellent. It focuses on three different characters in different spots in the aftermath of the trauma of witnessing death. While these stories are separate, they are cohesive in that way, and without spelling anything out they make powerful points about the journey of reacting to death.
HP Character-based Recommendations / Re: Parvati Patil
« Last post by Dojh167 on June 22, 2017, 08:37:14 AM »
Title: Serenity in Chaos
Author: nott theodore
Link(s): HPFT
Length / Completed: one shot 1001 words
Pairing(s): light Parvati/Lavender
Genre(s): drama, fluff, hurt/comfort
Summary: Parvati Patil had many secrets.  She balanced them like spinning plates, always terrified that one might drop and shatter. But in the midst of chaos, Parvati found serenity in the Forbidden Forest.
Reasons for recommending:
This is a really lovely piece that focus on Parvati as an individual separate from her connections with others, which is something that we don't see too often. Though it is short, the characterization is very strong and I find myself quickly in Parvati's shoes as she does what she needs to in order to balance her stress.
