  1. Reading Challenge 2018

As always, my goal is 50 books for the year! I came in a few under in 2017, so I really want to reach fifty this year! Read The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero Reading The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

  5. So between my dad being suddenly hospitalized, work getting crazy, and life boiling over, it's been an interesting start to 2018. Dad is okay, but we were touch and go for a bit. I'm just ready for things to be normal and okay again!

    1. abhorsen.

I'm so glad he's okay!  I hope everything gets normal again soon. <3 <3

  6. Best Minor HP Character Nominations

Character Name: Astoria Greengrass Story/Stories/Series Title: Sidenote: Greengrass Dys/Function Link to Story/Stories/Series: here+ Author: Beeezie Reason for Nomination: There are no words for how flawless Astoria is, but I'll try to explain. She's a trauma survivor; a strong, independent woman; a bisexual hero; a no-nonsense Ravenclaw; and so much more. She's been through so much in this series and is still somehow going after it all. Branwen makes me feel like I know Astoria as a friend. I'm a hardcore Dramione shipper, but this series made me more than happy to see Draco with his canonical partner.
  7. Best LGBTQA+ Character Nominations

Character Name: Luna Lovegood Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity: lesbian/bisexual Story/Stories/Series Title: Peppermint Link to Story/Stories/Series: here+ (M) Author: sapphicsunrise Reason for Nomination: This is such a sweet story. I really love Luna and Ginny together, and this story completely sold me on their friendship which grew to more. I also loved that Dean and Seamus made an appearance as a couple as well! Just a nice holiday story that I'm totally here for!
  8. Best Major HP Character Nominations

Character Name: Draco Malfoy Story/Stories/Series Title: Sidenote: Greengrass Dys/Function Link to Story/Stories/Series: here+ Author: Beeezie Reason for Nomination: Branwen's Draco is phenomenal. Draco is one of my favorite characters as is, but Branwen adds so much dimension to him through his interactions with Astoria. She grows him to be someone readers can trust and root for. And she makes him earn it. I literally cannot say enough good things about this portrayal.
  9. Best Family/Friendship Nominations

Characters Involved: Draco and Astoria Archive Name: Beeezie Story/Series Title(s): The Open Air Link to story: here+ (M) Reason for nominating: Oh my gosh, this friendship. I have no words. Branwen builds the romantic relationship between Draco and Astoria slowly, focusing on their friendship before evolving that to anything more. This story in particular is such a sweet, believable moment between friends--a moment where Draco gives Astoria a birthday gift and is embarrassed to show that level of dedication to their relationship. It's wonderful.
  10. Character Name: Astoria Greengrass Mental Illness/Disability: depression, PTSD Story/Stories/Series Title: Dead Eyes and Red Eyes Link to Story/Stories/Series: here+ (M) Author: Beeezie Reason for Nomination: Branwen does a fabulous job of showing how the war has affected Astoria and the self-harming mechanisms she uses to cope. This is such a realistic moment for Astoria, going through the trauma of living through terrible things. The characterization is spot on. The emotions are real. And, for anyone who loves Branwen's Drastoria fics, this is where they meet!
  11. Archive name: Stella Blue Story title: From Link to story: here+ Reason for Nomination: This story just won Hufflepuff Story of the Month, and it will take you about four words in to realize why. Kristin has written something beautiful. From is, in Kristin's words, "somewhat autobiographical," but anyone who's ever felt out of sync with the world will find themselves in these paragraphs. The story ponders what it's like to be an adventurer, a wayfarer, and someone who lives life in time with the blowing of the wind. It can be exciting and soulful, but also isolating and lonely. It's a dichotomy. From embraces that. I've read this three times already. If you have a few minutes, you should too!
  12. Archive Name: Sihaya Story Title: Got You Link to story: here+ (M) Reason for nominating: This story is so original and awesome. Sian wrote about Fenrir Greyback, and I wasn't in a rage the whole time I read this. In fact, this story is such a disturbing exploration of his mental state that I almost felt sympathetic towards him. The language is fabulous, the writing--as always for Sian--pristine. This story will give you goosebumps.
  13. Best Original Character Nominations

Character Name: Brendon Greengrass Story/Stories/Series Title: Sidenote: Greengrass dys/function Series Link to Story/Stories/Series: here+ Author: Beeezie Reason for Nomination: All of Branwen's characters in this series are spot-on, but Brendon is a particular joy to read. Branwen is able to capture a big-brother vibe with him while still showing how much he respects his sister Astoria's choices. Brendon is multifaceted, a Slytherin with a strong sense of justice, a perspective we don't get to read about Slytherins often enough. This character is awesome, and this series is amazing.
  14. Has anyone else seen "Puffs"? Because it's fabulous and I want to talk about it. :D

    1. Ineke

I know @TreacleTart has seen it with I think @LooneyLizzie

    2. Renacerá

It is so fantastic, I just can't even.

  15. Okay, but has anyone seen "Puffs"? Because it is AMAZING. If you haven't, it's an off-Broadway play in NYC, and it's the Harry Potter series told through the point of view of the Hufflepuffs at school with Harry. Here's more info on their website (A). I saw it last summer, and it's honestly one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I think I laughed through the entire play. Please tell me someone has seen it so that you can talk to me about how wonderful it is! And if you haven't seen it but want to, they're running a Kickstarter for the next few days to raise money to film it and distribute it on YouTube!
  16. I've been sick for so long that I'm starting to forget what it was like to have my nose NOT stuffed up.

  17. I'm so honored to have been chosen to join the Staff team! I can't wait to dive in as an Auror and serve this community even more! Much love, HPFT!

  20. Remember that the deadline for the Holiday and Diversity writing challenge has been extended! You still have time! Enter and maybe win awesome prizes!

    1. Shadowkat678

I can't focus enough to get it in the queue on time for it to be validated before the deadline. Oh well. Hm...you know. New Years...is still considered a holiday. And it is the Holiday and Diversity challenge. Ha. Hahaha...ha...it would still fit another extension! :whistling:

Ugh. I need help. This is a problem. Someone point a gun at my head and make me focus.

  21. Watching Chamber of Secrets with my sister and boyfriend, and I still can't understand why anyone would "follow the spiders." NUH UH. BYE HOGWARTS. GUESS YOU'RE GETTING SHUT DOWN. #sorrynotsorry

  22. Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra

I actually didn't feel like I needed any resolution about Zutara. I didn't even feel like there was tension between them in a ~relationship way~. I felt it was more: they're close to the same age and both such incredible benders, opposite elements, etc. And there's tension there for that. But I didn't want them to have any sort of relationship. I will go down on the Zuko/Mai ship. I feel like they're so incredible together. They understand each other and have been through so much. The "saving the jerk who dumped me" part is so fabulous. And I literally scream with happiness at, "I love Zuko more than I fear you." Also, Katara is such a strong character! I loved so much about her, so she deserves SO MUCH BETTER than Aang. (See below.) Aang/Katara was weird and gross, and the comics (which are mostly fantastic) just make it worse. They call each other "sweetie" constantly and it's vomit-inducing.
  23. Two days left to enter the prefects' writing challenge! Do ittttt!

  24. Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra

Omg, yessss! Zuko/Mai is life. They're fantastic together. But seriously, these characters are children. Why would Aang be so into Katara at literally age 12? Bleh. Also, that exchange is flawless.
