  1. This morning I got my first flame in years (on ao3) and I'm so proud of how little it bothered me. Like the last time I deleted everything I had ever written. Granted it was my first ever foray into the dark arts of writing and it was garbage, but it was still my garbage. This time I just snorted and deleted the comment.

Goshhh noo you should have left it! Let the internet be the eternal witness of idiots

(I personally love when I get trolls it's so funny lol)

I'm impressed that you deleted it without writing some sort of petty, snarky comeback to it first, which is what I'd have done xD  Also, I can't fathom what anyone could possibly have to flame about your writing. Some crazy reviewer clearly just can't recognize greatness when they see it.

I did consider leaving it! It was anonymous so I assumed they'd probably not be coming back. :D They were upset because the story was a tomione with background Ron/Hermione breaking up. There are a lot of people out there firmly against that ship so I wasn't too surprised.

  2. I may have put the cart before the horse because I was so excited for another Star Wars fan, but hello and welcome to HPFT! :) I'm Paula, one of the muggle liaisons, and we're so glad to have you! If you ever want to chat about anything or if you have any questions at all feel free to shoot me a pm! I'm always around!

HELLO FELLOW REYLO SHIPPER! Every time his voice goes all soft and gentle and thoughtful!
  4. Earworm

Another Night on Mars by The Maine. It was in my dreams last night and then I've been humming it nonstop all day. HELP.
  5. Conquering Self-Doubt in OF

I hit major writers block with one of my original fics and I just couldn't push through it so I started rewriting it as a fanfic to convert back and it worked really well for me. I managed three more chapters than before and then I just switched back to OF. I don't think it would work every time and now I have to fix a few things in the characterization department, but it still helped a lot. Self doubt is killer. I keep thinking about writing for myself though and that helps a lot. I've gotten to the point where half the time I don't actually post my stories because I keep thinking that I've written them for myself not my readers. Eventually I'll sit on the stories long enough and post them though.
  6. Was Tom Riddle destined to be evil?

My thing about psychopathy is that I'm not sure that I think that's enough to make him 'evil'. From everything I understand about it, it's truly a personality disorder and people can't help the way that they are. There's no cure, no easy treatment, and with the fundamental characteristics of it a person that is a psychopath wouldn't be in a position to seek help. No matter how callous or vicious a person is, I'm not sure that I necessarily hold it against them if it's something they can't help. I think in 100 years they'll look back and be horrified at our treatment of psychopaths. If I'm being honest I think I blame the adults in Tom's life much more so than anything else. If it was a genetic predisposition or in this case a magical predisposition, the adults in his life should have made up for it with environmental factors to the best of their ability. I find it very hard to believe that there were absolutely no magical foster families that could have taken him in and he didn't have the mother's love garbage that Dumbledore had harped on about with Harry. I feel like from the very beginning it seemed like Dumbledore held animosity and judgment for him. With love and help from mental health professionals (surely someone at St Mungo's had some training in that) I think they could have easily seen warning signs and corrected the issues.
  7. If you can rewrite the HP books, how will you change the plot?

I agree on so many points. So she even wants to stress this right? Like we keep hearing about inter-house unity and the world not being divided into good people and death eaters, but we rarely saw anyone even partially positive from Slytherin. I can think of Slughorn and that's really it. I wanted at least one or two obviously good people from Slytherin during Harry's years there. Also, slight tangent but I'm starting to think that Crabbe and Goyle should have been Hufflepuffs. Now hear me out, they were crazy loyal to Draco. Nowhere did we see any hint of ambition or cunning. I'm just saying that they didn't remotely fit the house values, but they somehow ended up Slytherin? Don't even get me started on Ravenclaw. I would have really loved for the houses to have more dimensional characters. I'm Ravenclaw to the core (ahem, okay, a little Slytherin too) and I can hardly relate to any claw characters even if I like them.
  8. Best Humor (Fan)fiction Nominations

Archive name: dirigibleplums Story Title: When Dahlias Bloom Link to story: here (M) Reason for nominating: Okay, so a ton of us read Dormitory 2.6a and we all loved it and Nova Hale was a magnificent character and Al was a cutie, right? Right, but the story was really made by the running commentary and expertly crafted snarkiness of Dahlia Darzi. Now imagine an entire fic of her. Yes, your dreams came true in the form of When Dahlias Bloom. She's hilarious, clever, and a fierce friend with so many dimensions and facet. If you've ever worked in the service industry you'll die laughing at her trying to deal with and not kill annoying customers. The banter will make you laugh out loud every other line. Plums never disappoints.
  9. Best LGBTQA+ Character Nominations

Character Name: Bram Greenfeld Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity: gay Series Title: Blue vs. Link to Story/Stories/Series: Here (M) Author: banshee Reason for Nomination: I couldn't sleep so I was looking for something light and fluffy and well written and Julie's AP is always a solid choice for that. She brought all of us over to the Simon vs. universe and this series is a bunch of cute stories from the book but in Blue's POV. She stays in the writing style of the author so it feels like it's snagged straight out of the book. She has Blue being a complete awkward cutie. It's just so nice and sweet and fluffy for the most part and the characterization throughout it is 10/10. You see him mulling over his feelings for Jacques, a heck of a lot of what ifs, and some cute boys trying to figure out who they are in the world. My favorite one in the series was Possibility so if you only check out one that's the one I recommend, but the whole series is perf.

  13. Most Versatile Author Nominations

Archive Name: pookha Link to Author's Page: here Reason for Nomination: I always really enjoy it whenever I check out anything Pookha writes and he can write about anything. From a Dread Hogwarts Cthulhu story to Crookshank's final day to McGonagall hosting a Cat Fight Club in the Room of Requirement (yes, you read that right). His writing is inspiring, clever, and always interesting. There's no genre or character he can't flesh out in a way that makes me rethink their entire story.
  14. Best HP Rare Pair Nominations

Archive Name: val Pairing: Cormac McLaggen/Eloise Midgeon Story title: Logarithmic Link to story: M Reason for nomination: This is my favorite story in the history of fanfiction. Cormac is completely in character, but Val gives him a depth that I've never ever seen before. Eloise is an absolutely brilliantly written character and I'm just cheering her on no matter what she decides to do or who she ends up with. Their chemistry is at least three fire emojis and the dialogue is everything I've ever wanted out of life.
  15. VAL! I'm so glad you're here!

Thank you, fabulous lady, I'm very excited to be here!

  16. Best Non-HP Fandom Nominations

Archive Name: Dreamgazer220 Fandom: The 100 Story Title: Unsteady Link to story: here Reason for nomination: This is one of my personal favorite stories because she does Bellarke SO well. If you love The 100 you probably love angst by default and I swear this piece is so angsty and sweet and perfect that it feels like it falls right out of canon.
  17. Reading Challenge 2018

Hi there! I'm joining this year along with my baby niece (she's 10 and would like me to stop referring to her as such but nooo). We're doing this one that she picked out: I'll post both of our lists as we go along to keep us both accountable! My list: in progress to be read Jade's list:
  18. Make-up

I'm so jealous! I got the darkest brown of the mother nature from ipsy/sephora play and it is SO pigmented and lovely. I really want that gold color in the desert sunset!
  19. Happy Christmas, Harry! I hope everyone has happy holidays! I've eaten so much fudge I can't move from the couch.

  20. The Issue of... Johnny Depp

Since we all seem to be at least reasonably displeased with the Depp situation I think y'all would like this buzzfeed post (M for the comment section which is toxic, stay out)
  21. Okay, so I stayed up all night reorganizing my OF and outlining the remaining chapters and I'M SO HAPPY WITH MYSELF. Like productivity has been dead and gone for months and I had this wonderful burst last night and now I'm writing easily again and my story feels so much more cohesive and meaningful and interesting and it makes me ramble. I also wrote the Bencident of my story, but I think it's just going to be a side story I share once I post the entirety of Rose & Co. Basically, it's the story of when Bia and Cast first meet. They're both dating this college boy named Ben and think he's a dreamy, albeit stupid boyfriend. Cass is at his apartment for a date night in when Bia shows up and lots of yelling and stupidity incurs and then Bia drags Cass out of the apartment with her because she feels bad bc Cass is so young to be dealing with someone so shitty and then they go get food and live happily ever after as girlfriends instead*. *eventually they stop dating because they aren't as compatible as they'd like, but there's definitely residual feelings there or at least I low key ship them because 99% of their scenes alone have that going on so I have to sort out who Cass actually ends up with because this point idk. But here's a story snippet that I'll go post in story snippets in a minute (totally unedited so excuse me that's how i live my life): I also made a list of "hot girl stuff" and "hot guy stuff" so I could keep mannerisms in mind instead of just lovingly gazing into orbs and I made a list of Bia and Cass things. Bia suffers from severe anxiety (bc I love self inserts) and Cass tries to be sensitive of that and do things like order her food for her and bring it to work so she can eat in peace and be mindful of when she needs space so that's nice. It was just a nice productive night. Also I realized that y'all are the best support system I've ever had. Like I felt a little insecure about going to the movies by myself on thursday, but with the outpouring of positive responses and understanding words I don't feel nearly as stressed about it. Like I think I'm going to actually have fun. Also the fact that I told y'all how I'm feeling over my IRL friends is a whole thing in and of itself. Today I'm headed into the city to go buy christmas presents for my husband's side of the family (they're the worst to shop for and always buy me crazy expensive presents and never abide by limits so ugh). I'm looking forward to alone time while shopping, but also I just bought six new books (Maggie Stiefvater had a sale on amazon–I think she still does if you want to start the raven boys and fall in love) and a new pair of glasses I didn't need and two coffee mugs so spending in december just makes me guilty. If I could just buy my nieces and nephews their presents and call it a day I'd be happy. Last but not least here's a video of my pup being festive. Or me being festive at him. Whichever. (Idk if this will work I've never tried it but there's no time like the present)
