Wow congratulations everyone! Doing well so far. I managed to hit 1k ln which isn't too shabby considering my 10k goal
  9. First Words

    My thrilling first line is:

current word count: 91 words out of 10,000 what i did: loosely planned out the amadori family tree and created this aesthetic for katrin 👇

I tried to stay away. I really did. But I love seeing the Crazies' Café on the forums and I love being part of it and @Ineke convinced me to just do it in about two seconds tops. So here I am. My goal this nano is a v tentative 10k that will encompass essentially any writing I do whether it is actual writing or planning. I plan to divide it up between two (possibly three if I get inspiration for compass of the soul) projects. one. WHEN DAHLIAS BLOOM I've uploaded about three chapters already and have nine in the bag, I think? The other six need heavy editing because I feel like I've gone a bit too overdramatic which is what tends to happen with me when I have multi-chaps. I've still got a long way to go with it as well since it's over the duration of about a year and I'm still writing in March or something like that. But what is it? WDB is a spin-off/sequel to Dormitory 2.6A and follows Dahlia Darzi, one of the original girls from the first fic. It's set a few months after she graduated Hogwarts and is mostly about growing up. Dahlia faces the struggle between the magical world she belongs in and the Muggle world she came from, one that's particularly emphasised in her tense relationship with her younger brother, Danyal. On top of that, she's battling off her Auntie Supriya's cultural expectations, somehow falling into friendship with James Potter and basically just taking life as it is. two. SECONDARY WORLD OF This unnamed plunny of mine just won't leave me alone. I think it partly came about when I saw @victoria_anne tweet something about her own fantasy OFs and partly because I was reading a lot of ASOIAF fics because I decided that hey, I'd like to create a secondary world. Mine doesn't have magic though. The premise: I soo did not create that on the spot during a lecture This is where most of my planning is coming in. I know what I want to do with this story, but need to nail down the plot and the creation of this world. I'm actually really enjoying this part too Anyways to expand on the plot (since it's pretty vague): • Blessed Court = royal harem for the royal family and the king's council (+ their heirs, possibly) • Lady of the Blessed Court = the king's favourite concubine, holds a fair bit of political power Katrin is the daughter of the Lord of the Seal (from the king's council) by his concubine and has grown up in the Blessed Court her entire life. As a minor, she is not yet a concubine, though she aspires to be the Court's Lady when she's older - partly because of her admiration of the (former) Lady Lucrezia, partly because of her own mother's naivety, and partly because she wants to be as great as the Court's founder. She believes she is well on her way to be so, especially since she is one of Lucrezia's favourites. Dramatic things happen for important reasons, resulting in the Court being attacked and Katrin escaping with the help of one of Lucrezia's guards and a mysterious boy who has been living in the hidden chambers of the Court (it's mysterious and juicy since men can't be there unless they're of high enough status or eunuchs. Plus, the kid's literally in a secret chamber). He turns out to be Casimir, the son of Lucrezia's closest friend, whose father died in battle and mother didn't want to give up. The three survivors are on their way to the country of Adria where Casimir's aunt lives. Cue more drama, war, slavery, bit o' death, sexy times and Plums trying to be political. It's a big project and I am a bit out of my depth here, but hopefully, all goes well. Feel free to ask me questions and get me thinking about the finer details of my project. Anything will be appreciated! xo
  12. PP: Would You Rather? MC Edition

Katrin: Hmm. Good question. My first instinct was to say I'd eat good food alone because few people are worth the sacrifice of it, but I changed my mind. Maintaining a network will help me on the way to becoming the Lady of the Court so I suppose I'll have to deal with it. Would you rather that you never feel any proper emotion or feel all of them at a really high setting? Ignore my awful wording lmao

It's half 4 in the morning so my brain isn't really working atm, but can I just say that this is just !!! Also this made me so excited, I don't even know why, just the way you phrased it?? Like you don't usually link empathetic with Slytherin and ofc Scorpius still doesn't want to hurt people, but I love love LOVE how the empathy is linked to the ability to manipulate people!!
  19. I went on a picspam craze today so to keep your motivation up, here's a lily evans aesthetic I know your fic is probably a v daunting task, but I have faith in you ♡♡

  21. dirigibleplums: various

Hi! I'm glad you think the OF sounds good (I can't find a way to describe it properly without revealing the entire plot lol so I wasn't so sure it would) Katrin's mother is from a merchant family and was disowned for sleeping with someone when she was seventeen. She promptly walked straight to the doors of the Blessed Court and asked to be let in. The fact that her mother chose the life of a concubine is something that does play an influence on Katrin, but more significant is Serra's naivety. While it's true that she is only ever with Katrin's father (and that she is the only concubine he is with), Katrin finds Serra's belief that he is in love with her to be delusional. At some point growing up, Katrin realises that he looks at them more like pets to be affectionate to rather than his true family; it's this that sparks and feeds her desire to be the Lady of the Blessed Court. As the Lady, no one would look at her that way. Because of Serra's blind devotion to Katrin's father, she also feels a bit sorry for her, but she loves her without question. Her father has a wife and children who Katrin doesn't care about and who I haven't yet created properly. Her father also has an older brother who the patriarch of the family, owns land bordering Neighbouring Country, and is a Defender of the Realm. This uncle also has a wife and children. Katrin is faintly aware of them, but again, has no interest - for now As the Lady, Lucrezia essentially rules the Court and selects favourites who also benefit from considerable respect. As she was growing up, Lucrezia saw Katrin's hunger for power and took her under her wing to mould her so she could get it. Whether this was out of kindness or an agenda is up for debate 😜 The nobility encompasses all the Houses and yes, there'll be political conflicts with them. Due to the nature of the story, we'll see less of it great detail, but it's important to the story. Can't have a war without it, after all This is actually hella important too. (Everything is, apparently.) So the mainland is split into four countries: Lethanya, Neighbouring Country (NC), Adria and Carsalon. NC is the biggest of the bunch while Adria is the smallest, mostly because it was part of NC a little over a hundred years ago. The two split when a former king of NC died and his crown went to his son, a reckless minor with a temper who was unsuited for rule, instead of his older sister who had a natural political inclination. Cue a civil war which ended with the rebels retreating to NC's most secure fortress and claiming all the land behind it as theirs. The two have fought regularly ever since with both sides calling in allies from Lethanya and Carsalon to help. Though Adria initially only wanted the most capable to be ruler regardless of gender, they quickly declared that it was to be a matriarchal society (mostly to anger NC even more). Due to this, slavery is forbidden in Adria; since NC own the slave trade, this is extra tension. And there is always tension. I've never written a fantasy novel before. My fanfiction typically focuses on characters and their relationships rather than an action-y plot. I'm worried about whether I'll be able to give the idea justice, but I hope I'll be able to write something that doesn't simply rely on characters Thanks for the questions!
  22. dirigibleplums: various

More questions ayyye 👊 Ooh, and lots of them. Thanks guys! ♡ I don't actually know I remember sitting down to create the characters and being like, "this girl is gonna swear like there's no tomorrow" simply bc it makes me laugh how bad some of my friends can get sometimes and it just... developed from that lol. She took on this life of her own and I ran with it because why not? I think it's a mixture of both maybe? For example, her speech about how there's this rush to be in a relationship for the sake of being in a relationship was something mh friends and I actually discussed once although it was phrased... somewhat less harsh than that. But then her rant in the Great Hall about her period was written when I (TMI alert) was suffering through cramps and kinda just wanted to scream it at my History teacher who wouldn't lay off me Thank you! As of right now, I don't think I will because there's just so much happening in the novel so I feel like it'll take away from all that. The journey to Adria is only part of what goes on and Jovanna is really just one of many influences for Katrin so I think other things will demand more attention HUGE SPOILER ALERT, but the shock of being removed from all her luxury and the comfort of a sheltered life; having to push her grief for her mother, who was killed in the attack, aside so she can make it to Adria; suspicious people chasing up any possible survivors. There'll be a lot of character growth here I basically answered this above, but yep Lmao when I get some, I'll be sure to pass them on 😂😂 I've literally been googling "how to make a fantasy world" to help me with mine And onto Ysh First of all, thank you so much ♡♡ I'm glad you like it It used to be Alia Bhatt, but I changed it to Ashika Pratt Might as well flat-out admit that yeah, it will develop into something more, but at the same time, not in the way one might think? Dahlia's way of showing affection is insulting someone with less venom than she would usually so she'd probably punch him on the shoulder and think it incredibly romantic 😂😂 (James: I just... wish I understood why I'm attracted to you.) Yupp. Alice predominantly, but the others also feature in it along with Al My muse and the Marauders have a love-hate relationship. As in I always have ideas and my muse gets excited and then it disappears and leaves the idea in the dust. Hogwarts High started out strong and I STILL have various scenes in my head... but I just can't get them onto the page. Which makes me upset bc I loved the idea 😢 I am writing a modern!soulmate au for a wolfstar fic atm which is going well, but I think that's only bc I have no idea where it's going 😂
  23. me, being the basic person i am, completely forgot to contact my challenge winners for their prizes 😩😂

      dirigibleplums

i'll do it soon, i promise

  24. dirigibleplums: various

Yay, questions! It has and it hasn't. It's really easy writing Dahlia and Alice because they have an easy dynamic, but the change in setting, lifestyle and age makes it harder to keep up with all the girls. I worry a lot more about giving each of them a voice which is both easier since (spoiler alert? idk) Nova and Reagan are off in Europe so there's less of them, but harder because they're also essential to the girls' dynamic. Also, there's a huge emphasis on Dahlia's family which takes up a huge chunk of the interactions and gives the girls less screentime. I'd say the biggest challenge is making her both likeable, plus not making it overly dramatic. Which is hard because Dahlia is a dramatic person by nature, but I don't want to shove it down people's throats lol Definitely in the past/medieval era! I've been doing fairly shallow research into a huge bunch of ancient to early modern eras of different empires/countries to pick out ideas to implement in the kingdoms included in the story e.g. the roles in the king's council are based off Henry VIII's Privy Council. But yeah, Lethanya is currently in an early modern-esque era Actually, yeah! I need to work out the finer details, but it'll be mentioned throughout. note to mods: i'm going to stick a bit of this in a spoiler bc i'm not sure whether it's appropriate to mention on site? if not, feel free to adjust it. BASICALLY, the country, Lethanya, was established some 300 - 400 ish years ago by the Amadori family. The first couple of generations were primarily concerned with bringing more settlements under their rule and consolidating their borders. When making peace with their as-of-yet-unnamed, much larger and older neighbouring country, Lethanya receive a 'gift' aka slaves because they're awful people.* Regardless of this, she was still important politically simply because she had such an influence on the king. After his first wife died, Jovanna became queen. During her reign, she established a network of women and was a patron of disadvantaged women. At some point before her death, she established the Blessed Court as a way to elevate select women including former slaves who wanted to rise through society albeit in an unconventional way. Sadly, it didn't take long until after their reign for the Court to stray from this aim and it eventually became populated with slaves as the trade with Neighbouring Country continued. *I really debated about this detail, but ultimately have decided to tentatively go for it because I think it's important for Katrin's development. Though Katrin is not a slave herself, she takes great inspiration from the fact that Jovanna went from the lowest class of society to the highest. [She somewhat skewers the reality of what Jovanna was really like since a) the woman lived centuries before her and b) her legacy in history itself has been. But it's still important, I'd say.] Plus, the slavery itself is important to the story too.
