  1. Welcome to the HPFT bulletin, where you can find all of our major monthly announcements and information about upcoming events! This month, we've also got an announcement about our upcoming second birthday celebration. If you're new, first and foremost: welcome to HPFT! It's awesome to have you with us. HPFanficTalk is a forum/archive - the forum is Harry Potter-themed (including a year-long house cup), but we talk about other fandoms, too, and the archive is multi-fandom/OF. We have a strong culture of support for other writers and feedback here, including a story help section, challenges, and reviewing events, so if you're a writer, you've come to the right place. A quick rundown to help you get started here on the forums: please post in the 'Welcome to HPFT' topic +here to say that you've read over the rules and understand them. You can specify your house in that post or in our sorting ceremony +here - once you do, we'll sort you into the right group so you can see a common room that only people in your house are allowed to see. You're welcome to post in your common room and/or in our introductions forum +here to introduce yourself if you'd like, and you may also find our +FAQs helpful. Enjoy your stay! @abhorsen. will be joining the Professor team part-time in addition to her main duties. There's a lot more activity around the site these days, and after some discussion, we decided to change our application process a little going forward. We'll still hold onto any applications submitted for three months before you need to reapply (i.e., until September), but we'll be giving people the chance to apply for the first week of every month. (Other than this one - for this month, applications will be open from June 11 - June 18.) You can find the application +here. A more detailed rundown on how HPFT staffing works can be found +here. If you have any graphics on the archive (or here) that are hosted on imgbox, please rehost them elsewhere; we'll be removing links in the meantime. (Right now, google is insisting that all graphics hosted there are malware, so we need to remove the links.) We're thrilled to announce that we've started a new area on the forums... Graphics Talk! We've had several requests for this over the past year or so, but we haven't gone ahead with it before now because we had concerns about not having the activity level from artists to sustain the structure of the requesting sections of graphics sites like TDA and Shadowplay. However, when @just.a.willow.tree suggested that we structure it as similar to the review requests instead, we started discussing it as a staff and decided to finally go ahead with it. So: now it's there. Enjoy! In addition, please note that we have a new prefects' challenge! The prefects' celebration challenge will run through July 15, and gives you several prompts to choose from. Keep in mind that entering and placing in prefect challenges counts for more than normal challenges if you're working toward your challenge badge - we hope you can get in an entry! Our four houses have all been in the process of running their house awards this month! Hufflepuff is just starting the nominating process, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw are both doing their reading week(s) prior to opening voting, and Slytherin just finished voting up. If you haven't stopped into your house recently, you should definitely check them out - and if you don't have a house yet, it's not too late to get yourself sorted by posting +here! Our second birthday is quickly approaching! We hope you'll join us for our celebration. Our first head student just joined our community here at HPFT in April, but she's a very familiar face to anyone who's spent time at TDA. She's quickly become very active in her common room and engaged with the community as a whole, and she recently put her first story into the queue. (Coming soon! ) She's already become a very positive presence in our community, and we're so thrilled to have her here. Please give it up for... @starbuck! Our second head student this month also recently found HPFT, but she was active on the HPFF forums, so we were happy to see that she'd found us! She's quickly gotten involved with the forums and has been very active on the archive, posting a novel as well as several shorter stories, and her nominations for her house's yearly awards were very well-deserved. Congratulations to... @ShadowRose! Congratulations again to both of you. We're all so lucky to have you in this community! Please PM me with which of your stories you'd like us to feature next month! The Prefects have decided to honor one of our amazing admins for June’s Order of Merlin, just in time for HPFT’s anniversary month! And the winner is…. @toomanycurls! You know her for amazing stories and her reputation of making everyone cry when she inevitably breaks your heart; but on and off the screen, Rose is a wonderful, hardworking fearless leader - on both the archives and the forums. This month especially, we can’t thank her enough for helping create this new home for us all. As part of the admin team, she’s so approachable and encourages honest communication and discussion while also working hard to create a safe, open and diverse environment for us. After a series of unfortunate events unfolded in April, she spearheaded a new Review Transfer Tool, so everyone could save their beloved reviews from old sites and transfer them onto the archives. She also does a lot of the coding work on the archives, and is always around for anyone who has questions about site rules or if you just want to chat. Overall, we can’t imagine this site without her. Please take a moment and join me in congratulating Rose, and thank her for everything she does. - @dreamgazer220 June's SotM goes to... @just.a.willow.tree for her story an absence of sound! and then i am silent. banner by empyreal @TDA Every month, HPFT runs Fic Night, where a staff member reads a nominated fic from one of our members. You can check out @TidalDragon reading Two Months by @Levana for May's Fic Night +here if you haven't seen it yet! This month, we're featuring the story of the month, the fic night story, a recent head student fic, and some of the stories from our FROGS top threes and winners of previous house awards that have the longest titles, since they fit easier into these awards. 2. Welcome to the HPFT bulletin, where you can find all of our major monthly announcements and information about upcoming events! This month, we've also got the results of our Fic Feud event and some announcements about new forum features and some major archive changes, including a tool to transfer any reviews you have back up from HPFF over to HPFT. (This is a bit of a long bulletin, so buckle up. ) If you're new, first and foremost: welcome to HPFT! You're welcome to post in your common room and/or in our introductions forum +here to introduce yourself if you'd like, and you may also find our +FAQs helpful. Enjoy your stay! Hufflepuff: 3449.5 Ravenclaw: 2200 Gryffindor: 1916.5 Slytherin: 1655 We already bumped the additions to the staff/prefect team from our April apps a week or so ago , but we'd like to officially welcome them to the staff team now (as well as announce a couple more changes)! @Levana and @victoria_anne have both joined the Muggle Liaison team! Maggie and Bianca both bring some great previous experience to the table, and our ML quartet is planning some amazing new things in the coming months. We're thrilled to have them aboard! In addition, @MegGonagall has decided to switch from her current role as Professor to being a full time member of the Auror team! @PaulaTheProkaryote is also joining the validating team part-time in addition to her Muggle Liaison duties, and @TidalDragon and @Alopex will be joining the moderating team part-time. We're also very excited to add @Slytherinchica08 to the prefect team; anyone who's seen Erica around the forums knows how friendly (and animal friendly!) she is, and we're psyched to have her help. Enjoy your new roles, everyone! Please note that in the original version of the bulletin, Paula, Meg, and Kevin had all joined the Auror team part-time, and we had no part-time Professors. We have a couple new features on the forums that we'd like to introduce you to! Skins. Our wonderful headmaster @Alopex uploaded two new forum themes/skins earlier this month, so you now have three to choose from (including the default). You can find the announcement +here, and the option to change your theme at the very bottom of the forums. Holly did an amazing job, and we're so psyched to have them! Badges. HPFT has some of the most dedicated, hard-working, and talented writers/reviewers in the fanfiction community, and we've decided to add a feature that formally recognizes that. It's entirely opt-in. If you choose to participate, you'll be able to claim badges for various accomplishments and milestones that you reach, events you participate in, and leadership roles that you've filled. You can find more information about our badges and how to claim them in the new badge sub-forum +here; we'll be making them visible over the course of the next hour or so. 3. NaNo Nests. In addition, if you participated in Camp NaNo and would like your Novel Nest either moved to our +Writing Journal section (if you don't already have a journal) or merged with your regular writing journal (if you do), please post a comment in your NaNo Nest by May 7. If you don't comment by then but change your mind later, you can just contact any Professor - they'll be happy to move it for you, even if the Nest has been hidden. This month we have several notices, announcements, and reminders in regards to our Archives! Review Transfers from HPFF - @toomanycurls has been working on a system to make transferring of any reviews you'd gotten on HPFF to HPFT over the years much easier! With this system, you won’t have to copy and paste everything manually at the right story, but it gets done for you! You can find the post about it +here; if you follow the instructions there, your reviews will be moved in the next month of so (depending on demand). In addition, we would also like to remind you about +this poll in regards to possible new functions on the archives if you haven't seen it yet! Archive Advisories - There are two impending changes in regards to archive advisories that will be implemented shortly. The changes will be regarding two of the advisories: the Hate Speech advisory, and the Sexual Assault advisory. Based on member feedback a couple months and internal discussion, we shall be splitting the Hate Speech advisory into two advisories: Hate Speech and Derogatory Language. The first will be reserved for very serious slurs that are universally seen as problematic, and the second will be for other slurs. Changes will be implemented when it comes to ratings as well (some stories, for instance, will now be fine with a T rating instead of an M). Based on internal discussion, we shall be changing the Sexual Assault advisory into two categories: Consent Issues (Severe) - e.g., depictions of rape, mentions of child abuse - and Consent Issues (Mild/Moderate) - e.g., unwanted kissing, grey consent areas, etc. The second will be allowed at both T and M ratings. The new tags have been posted, and the site guidelines have been updated. You can also check the +consent issues tutorial and the +profanity/slur tutorial for further details. Reminders: Lastly, the Validators would like to remind you all to please read the emails we send you after we validate your stories. In all rejections and some acceptances, notes will be written in to point you to specific areas of concern. In rejections, those need to be changed for us to validate your story. Here are a few reminders for everyone to keep in mind: If you had a chapter rejected for a rating that needs to be changed or an advisory that needs to be added, please keep in mind that the software won't register changes unless a space (or something similar) has been added to the end of the chapter and saved. If this isn’t done, the chapter won’t go back into the queue. Please also keep in mind that if you throw in a lot of chapters of the same story into the queue (which is fine!) and we have to reject one of those, we will leave the rest of the chapters alone until the necessary changes have been made. This is to avoid having to reject multiple chapters of the same story for the same reason, as that would be very demotivating and unfairly impact your ability to get CA status later. Do keep in mind that the rejection/acceptance emails will sometimes come into your spam box. Do check that too if your chapter isn't up and it's been a week (for shorter stories/individual chapters) or two weeks (for novels). If it takes longer than that to get validated and you haven’t gotten an email or a previous chapter hasn’t been rejected, feel free to reach out to @abhorsen., @BellaLestrange87, @Ineke, or @Renacerá on the forums or email us at validator@hpfanfictalk.com! HPFT is now on facebook! You can find the page +here. It's yearly house award season! All four houses are either in the process of running their awards or are about to start them. Stop into your common room for more information if you already have a house. If you don't but would like to join one, contact @abhorsen., @Alopex, or @toomanycurls - we'll get you sorted ASAP! Our first Head Student this month has been wonderful on the archive and the forums over the past couple months! On the archive side, they've posted a number of reviews and uploaded more than a dozen great stories, and on the forum side, they're also posting all over the place, including starting some really interesting topics that we've all gravitated toward! <3 Congratulations to... @facingthenorthwind! Nix has also been keeping our validators busy (and very entertained!) with the stories she's been posting to the archive, and she's left many reviews over the past month as well. In addition, she's a great member on the forums, participating in a number of threads in both her common room and the broader HPFT forums. This is very deserved, and please join us in congratulating... @Nix! Congratulations again to both of you. We're all so lucky to have you in this community! Please PM me with which of your stories you'd like us to feature next month! The Prefects have decided to honor one of our amazing Aurors for May’s Order of Merlin! And this month, the winner is…. @Ineke! You know her for her undeniable enthusiasm, love for Cursed Child, and, of course, her outstanding dedication to our archive. When a series of unfortunate events rolled out, causing a wonderful spike in membership for both our forums and our archives, Ineke didn’t let that slow her down. She rose to the challenge and in the month of April alone, has validated well over 280 chapters! Please take a moment to thank Ineke for all she does on the forums, but especially the queue, for keeping wait-times down while always encouraging authors to submit new stories and chapters despite the high number of chapters in the queue. We can’t imagine our archive without you, so thank you for all you do! We are very excited to announce the winners of Fic Feud, this year’s staff-hosted writing competition! As a quick run-down, participants in the competition were assigned a partner, with whom they had to write a two-to-four chapter story, with four elements chosen for each chapter. To make it more difficult, they were able to sabotage another team by either assigning or blocking elements. Coming in with the top score overall are @pookha & @Levana for their story A Rescue In Space And Time (M)! This story really stood out to judges on the creativity/difficult elements front and scored strongly in that area. These two have each earned 75 points for their house (Ravenclaw & Hufflepuff), in addition to 5 points each for the chapters they wrote. Our runners-up are @Rumpelstiltskin & @victoria_anne with their story Mask of Truth! This story earned the highest score in cohesiveness. Each of them has earned 50 points for their house (Slytherin & Hufflepuff), in addition to the 5 points each for the chapters they wrote. Our other four entries are listed below. Each earned 5 participation points for the author’s house. This has resulted in 12.5 points for Gryffindor, 27.5 for Hufflepuff, 15 for Ravenclaw, and 10 for Slytherin. Marriage Isn’t A Fairytale by @Alexis Black & @forever_dreaming Decay Theory by @Dojh167 & @Aphoride Everlasting… by @StarFeather & @just.a.willow.tree The Madness of Magic (M) by @Pixileanin & @Phoenix Potioneer And just some additional recognitions: We’d like to extend our congratulations to @StarFeather, who had the highest focus-on-elements score by a decent margin. We’d also like to recognize the team of @Pixileanin & @Phoenix Potioneer for being the only team to write more than two chapters. For those curious about the scoring rubric/process: May's SotM goes to... @Chelts-rhj for her story Stand Tall! Alba Williamson is a cross-word loving Ravenclaw in her seventh year at Hogwarts. Pity is her nemisis, and pride is her guiding light. Determined to keep her head up through thick and thin, she struggles with the challenges of cerebral palsy. Though her best friend James helps as much as he can, things are sure to change with the Triwizard Tournament right around the corner. banner by @abhorsen. 3. Welcome to the HPFT bulletin, where you can find all of our major monthly announcements and information about upcoming events! This month, we've also got some information for authors in light of the HPFF shutdown. Hufflepuff: 3394.5 Ravenclaw: 2090 Gryffindor: 1886.5 Slytherin: 1570 We're very sad to announce that @BlackPixie is stepping down from their position as Slytherin prefect. Hayden has done an amazing job and is a wonderful member of Slytherin house. We're very happy, however, to announce that @just.a.willow.tree will be stepping up to become a prefect for Hufflepuff House - Eva's been incredibly active since joining the site late last year, and we're excited to have her on the team! Thank you, Hayden! Enjoy your new role, Eva! We'll be included a proper announcement in May's newsletter, but we wanted to give a quick shout out now to @Levana, @victoria_anne, and @Slytherinchica08, who will be joining the team - Maggie and Bianca as Muggle Liaisons, and Erica as a prefect. We're reopening staff/prefect applications! Rather than post applications whenever a position opens up, we post an application using for all site staff roles every three months. Any positions that need to be filled over the following three months are filled using responses to that application, so if you're interested in joining the staff or prefect team, you should absolutely apply. You're welcome to apply to as many roles on the application as you're interested in, and we don't have any restrictions based on post count or time you've spent as a member. You can find the application +here. If you would like to apply, please do so by April 11, 11:59pm GMT. If you'd like to review the full breakdown of responsibilities/more details about how we fill staff/prefect positions, you can find a blog entry about it +here. Thank you! As many of you know, HPFF announced that it will be closing its doors at the end of April. We know that many of our members - existing, returning, and new alike - have used the site over the many years that it's been active, and we've discussed as a staff how best to help everyone through the transition. We'll be posting more details in the coming days with more details, but the first thing to watch out for is this: @toomanycurls has been working on a way for us to transfer all of your HPFF reviews pretty quickly and painlessly. We've tested it out on several stories, and it works. She's putting the final touches on it now, and we should be rolling it out in the next few days. When we post the topic, we'll post announcements on the forum, archive, and social media, so just make sure you're checking in on one or more of those spaces if that's something you're interested in. In more minor news, we've added a preferred pronoun field to forum profiles. It's totally optional, but if you'd like to fill it out, you're very welcome to. We know a lot of members are transferring stories over from HPFF, and we're psyched to see them! We do want to emphasize that while HPFT also has a moderated queue, we do have very different rules, so we strongly encourage you to read them over +here. To give a couple quick highlights (including some things that aren't rules but are more cultural): We like diversity, including (but not limited to) sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, and disability. While our archive is moderated and there are some things that we don't allow, we're fairly permissive in what we do allow in terms of sexual content as well as issues like self-harm. Please check out the archive site guidelines for details, but if you've got some fairly graphic content (including content that wasn't allowed on HPFF), don't automatically assume it won't be accepted. As many of you know, we have an open queue - i.e., you can submit as many chapters to the queue at once as you'd like. (Truly - as many as you'd like. If it's easiest for you to put 100 chapters in at once, that's totally fine.) As mentioned above, our archive is multi-fandom. We don't accept Disney-based material (other than parodies) for legal reasons, but we'll accept fanfiction from just about any other fandom as well as original fiction. We're happy to add tags for any fandom/character/ship that has at least one story on the archive. If you have a story written that requires one or more of those tags that we don't have yet, just post in the Tag Request thread +here. Your friendly neighborhood admin will add them for you. We'd also like to mention to people who participated in the hate speech feedback thread early in March that we really appreciated their feedback! We've been discussing the results as a staff and will be announcing some changes in May. Camp NaNo is here! Check out the Crazies' Cafe +here to participate. We're also still in the process of our Fic Feud event - we can't wait to see what participants come up with! Our first Head Student this month has been incredibly active on both the forums and the archive since she joined in January. She's posted some very long and thorough reviews, a few terrific stories, and between her status updates, game posts, and general contributions to discussions, she's a wonderful presence around the site. Please give it up for... @Levana! Our second Head Student this month also joined the site in January, and she's also already been an amazing presence in the community. Our aurors have loved coming across her stories in the queue since then, and she's also been very active in games, discussions, and status updates. Please join us in congratulating... @Phoenix Potioneer! Congratulations again to you both, and thank you for being such wonderful members of the community. <3 Please PM me with which of your stories you'd like us to feature next month! For this month’s Order of Merlin award, the Prefects have chosen our wonderful, hardworking Muggle Liaison Assistant. Please join me in congratulating… RoxiMalfoy! You know her for her mastery of emoji usage and general enthusiasm, but we’d also like to recognize Deana for her hard work as one of our Muggle Liaisons. She works very hard to help keep our social media active and up to date, including recently updating our SnapChat bitmoji to a rather friendly Harry as a new way to interact with our members. She’s also done a great job of being active amongst not just her fellow Slytherins by helping with some of their common room activities, but across the site as a whole by greeting new members and spreading the love. Her consistency and her activity is definitely noticed and much appreciated. Thank you, Deana, for everything you do. We’re very lucky to have her amongst our staff! - the prefects April's SotM goes to @Crimson Quill for her story Letter to the Lost (M)! People didn't laugh any more, at least not in front of Sirius. Sirius craved to laugh again but the sound just wouldn't come. 4. Welcome to the HPFT bulletin, where you can find all of our major monthly announcements and information about upcoming events! With our FROGS awards and secret cupid events being officially over, we've got some fun in store for you this March! If you're new, first and foremost: welcome to HPFT! It's awesome to have you with us. HPFanficTalk has both a forum/archive - the forum is Harry Potter-themed (including a year-long house cup), but we talk about other fandoms, too, and the archive is multi-fandom/OF. You can specify your house in that post or in our sorting ceremony +here - once you do, we'll sort you into the right group so you can see your common room. You're welcome to post in your common room and/or in our introductions forum +here to introduce yourself if you'd like, and you may also find our +FAQs helpful. Enjoy your stay! Hufflepuff: 3214.5 Ravenclaw: 2075 Gryffindor: 1816.5 Slytherin: 1565 We've finished our latest round of CA status checks on the archive, and will be bumping authors shortly; if you haven't been given CA status, you may find +this blog post helpful. In addition, we're discussing making some changes to the archive rules; please give your input +here! We'll be running our Fic Feud writing event throughout March and the first half of April! This competition will require you to work with a partner to fit certain elements of a story together in creative ways - and give you the chance to sabotage another team. You can find more information and sign up for it +here! Our second annual FROGS awards have concluded! We want to thank everyone who was a part of it - you all make this site the wonderful and talented community that it is. It was so hard to choose winners, because our archive is full of amazing stories and wonderful reviewers. You can check out our announcement of the winners +here; the top three in each category (top four when there was a tie for third place) got their own personalized chocolate frog card, and there's also a finalist card for those who made it through to the voting round but didn't place. Stories that placed that haven't already been featured on the archive will be featured stories at some point in the next year, and points have been added to our House Cup totals. Thanks again, everyone! <3 Over the course of February, we ran a secret cupid gift exchange. Reviews and questions were left, graphics were gifted, and we all had a lot of fun with it! Our 26 participants were all incredibly generous and spread some Valentine's Day cheer. You can check out the topic revealing who everyone's secret cupid was +here! A few cupids in particular stood out, and we'd like to gift them some graphic awards. Thank you so much, @TidalDragon, @just.a.willow.tree, @Felpata_Lupin, @MuggleMaybe, and @Rumpelstiltskin! In addition, there were two members whose creativity in the gifts they left deserve special recognition. @WriteYourHeartOut created a scavenger hunt for the cupid she was given, and @Ignatia made several different graphic gifts, including a full calendar and a game! And finally, for everyone else who participated, here's a little graphic for you as well. Our first Head Student this month is a brilliant artist, a great writer, and an all-around wonderful member of the site who we're psyched to see dropping in more often! She left a number of gifts as a secret cupid, was active in her common room, and has recently started a challenge! Congratulations to... @beyond the rain! Our second Head Student also spread a lot of joy around as a secret cupid, and she's been a very active reviewer in general lately! Her challenge is just finishing up, she's entered other challenges lately, and has recently taken on more responsibility in her common room by joining the newsletter team. Congratulations to... @Felpata_Lupin! Congratulations again to you both. Please PM me with whichever of your stories you'd like us to feature! <3 For this month’s OoM, we’ve chosen another one of our wonderful admins. Please join me in congratulating… @abhorsen.! As many of you know, Branwen’s dedication to this site is astounding. Not only is she an active admin on the forums, but she also helps out with the archive, too. She is just one of Ravenclaw’s fearless leaders, known not just for her stunning graphic awards (did you guys see those beauties from the FROGS this year?), but also for her kindness, patience, and general awesomeness. She’s always around if you have a question or concern, and you see her consistently uploading new stories and leaving thoughtful reviews for other members, too. We Prefects are fairly certain that she’s a superhuman, and HPFT wouldn’t be the same without her. Thank you, Branwen, for everything you do for us, and congratulations! March's SotM was a tie between two wonderful and well-deserving stories! A huge congratulations to both @dreamgazer220 and @just.a.willow.tree for winning March's SotM! “Get some sleep. Insomnia isn’t romantic.” After a terrifying night in July, 1994, her life is changed forever. While Hogwarts hosts the TriWizard Tournament, Catherine Lawrence isolates herself into sleepless nights while she struggles to come to terms with her new reality. 5. Welcome to the HPFT bulletin, where you can find all of our major monthly announcements and information about upcoming events! With our FROGS awards just finishing up and some smaller-scale activities on the horizon, we hope you'll all enjoy taking a breather. Hufflepuff: 1941 points Ravenclaw: 1100 points Slytherin: 1071 points Gryffindor: 1016 points We're sorry to announce that @MalfoysAngel will be stepping down from her role as Gamekeeper. Tasha is a good friend to so many on the site, and we hope she won't be a stranger. <3 We're excited, however, that @TidalDragon has agreed to move over to the role. Kevin has been one of the most dedicated and integral staff members of HPFT since we opened our doors, and we're sure he'll be as amazing as a Gamekeeper as he has been as a Professor. To replace him, we'll be bumping @MegGonagall to Professor - Meg's been a devoted member of the site in a variety of different roles, and we're happy to have her on staff! Finally, we're thrilled to welcome @dreamgazer220 to the prefect ranks! Jill has always been a credit to Hufflepuff, and she was a wonderful professor until she stepped down last year, so we're very happy to have her on board. Thank you for everything, @MalfoysAngel! Enjoy your new roles, @TidalDragon, @MegGonagall, and @dreamgazer220! Voting for our second annual FROGS is closing today - make sure you get any last-minute votes in! After that, we'll be moving the polls to the staff area, where staff will cast their votes. We'll announce the winners around February 10. Thank you so much to everyone who nominated and voted, and congratulations to everyone who was nominated! For February, we're going to have a lower pressure activity: secret cupid! Cupids will need to leave at least three gifts for whoever they're assigned to over the course of two weeks. You can find the sign-up thread here; just make sure you post by February 7 if you want to participate! Our first head student this month is a relative newcomer to the site, but she's already uploaded seven amazing stories (seriously, check them out!) and started showering people with reviews. She's been a wonderful presence around the site and in her common room; please give it up for... @ReillyJade! Our second head student has been a consistent and dedicated member of the site since it started up. She's a wonderful presence on the forums, and both her stories and reviews are absolutely lovely. This month was no exception, and we wanted to take the chance to recognize... @dreamgazer220! Please PM me with your choice of what story of yours that you'd like to be featured on the archive, and thank you both so much for everything you do! This month's OoM goes to one third of our incredible admin team... @Alopex!! Holly works tirelessly behind the scenes to make that site continues to run smoothly through thick and thin. From organizing sitewide activities to helping keep herd us prefects in the right direction, Holly is nothing but kind and welcoming, always willing to answer a question or offer works of encouragement. The site wouldn't be the same without her! Congratulations once again to Holly! In December, the prefects ran a wonderful challenge that centered around holidays and diversity. You can view the full results +here, but we also wanted to give a special shout out to everyone who entered and the three overall winners here. There were so many wonderful entries, and I doubt that these will be the last awards I make for them - several of the entries are finalists in the FROGS, and we're planning to feature all of them over the next few months. That said, we'd like to give out special awards for our top three: Amazing job, @MuggleMaybe, @just.a.willow.tree, and @800 words of heaven! Every month, HPFT runs Fic Night, where a staff member reads a nominated fic from one of our members. You can check out January's Fic Night here if you haven't seen it yet - @TidalDragon reads @BlackPixie's People Watching, and they answer some questions. Congratulations to all of this month's featured stories! They include a few stories by recent head students, the fic night story, each house's first place story in the recent prefects' challenge, and a couple prefect/staff picks! 6. Welcome to the HPFT bulletin, where you can find all of our major monthly announcements and information about upcoming events! Most notably this month, we've got the FROGS and a new round of staff/prefect apps to look forward to this month, as well as a few staff changes and our monthly (and a few special) awards to announce. Read on for more info - and happy new year! Hufflepuff: 1826 Slytherin: 1056 Gryffindor: 1008 Ravenclaw: 987 We're excited to welcome @Renacerá to the auror team! Emily has done an amazing job since she became a Hufflepuff prefect a couple months ago, and the application she submitted for the auror position was very strong as well. With the changes to our rules re: the queue and activity on the archive picking up in general, we're very happy to be able to bump her up! However, we are sorry to announce that both @poppunkpadfoot and @ShazaLupin will be stepping down from their position as Gryffindor and Hufflepuff prefect, respectively. Kayla and Shaza are both wonderful people, great members of the site, and have been terrific prefects. We'll miss having them both on the team - thank you so much, Kayla and Shaza! We're reopening staff/prefect applications! Every three months, we post an application for all site staff roles. Any vacancies that exist when we post applications or that come up over the course of the following three months are filled using that application, so if you're interested in joining, you should absolutely apply. You can pick as many roles as you'd like (it's all one application), and we don't have any restrictions on post count or time spent as a member. You can find the application +here. If you would like to apply, please do so by January 10, 11:59pm GMT. If you'd like to review the full breakdown of responsibilities/more details about how we fill staff/prefect positions, please click the spoiler tag below. Thank you! We have several changes to announce regarding the archive. First: going forward and effectively immediately, we will be abolishing all queue limits on the archive. Members will be permitted to submit as many new chapters to the queue at a time as they'd like - just know that if you submit 75 chapters at once, it might take us a little while to work through them and we'll also be keeping the queue clear before returning to your chapters (so other authors who are just submitting a couple chapters aren't stuck waiting). Second: our wonderful admin and coder @toomanycurls has played with archive software. There is now a 'report review' function that you can use, and inside your account info -> reviews received, you can now view all of your reviews under a single tab (as opposed to going story-by-story). Finally, we now have a secondary twitter account that automatically posts chapter updates: +HPFT New Chapters - follow it if you'd like to see when people update their stories. The FROGS are here! They're our annual awards, and the chance to really recognize the best and brightest among us! This year, we will be including the following categories: Most Versatile Author Best Reviewer Best Non-HP Fandom Best Original Fiction Best Angst Best Dark/Horror Best Humor Best Romance Best Rare Pair Best Depiction of Friendship/Family Best LGBTQA+ Best Depiction of a Mental Illness/Disability Best Original Character Best Major HP Canon Character Best Minor HP Canon Character Nominations will open on January 3! Our two head students this month were both enthusiastic participants in the snowball fight, leaving the fourth-most and fifth-most reviews, respectively. One of them only just joined the site partway through the event, and the other came back from a hiatus. We know how hard it can be to jump in so strongly, and we think that they deserve significant recognition for how much happiness they spread during the event. Thank you so, so much, to both of you - you're both absolutely amazing members, and you've made so, so many of us smile this month. (And, of course, earned Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw a boatload of points as well!) @just.a.willow.tree and @manno-malfoy! Please PM me with your choice of what story of yours that you'd like to be featured on the archive, and thank you both again! Eva and manno weren't the only standout reviewers this month! For the winter wonderland event, we left a mind-boggling number of reviews on the archive! 29 different reviewers left a mind-boggling 1376 reviews for 97 different authors and on 518 different stories! Whether you spent the month frantically reviewing or only had time to leave a few, you all helped make the event a huge success. We would like to give special recognition to our top three reviewers: @nott theodore, @Dojh167, and @Rumpelstiltskin! We'd also like to recognize three reviewers who left a lot of particularly thorough reviews! @Stella Blue, @Crimson Quill, and @forever_dreaming! You can view the total points breakdown +here! A huge congratulations to @Dojh167 for winning January's SotM with her story When I Go Out With You (M)! 7. Welcome to the HPFT bulletin, where you can find all of our major monthly announcements and information about upcoming events! We're very sad to announce that @Aphoride will be stepping down from her position as Auror on December 1. Laura was one of the first people to join our validator team, and she's done an amazing job in that capacity over the past year (as well as in her role as prefect before that). We'll miss her a lot, and her help was invaluable as we got the next event ready. We hope to continue to see her around the forums, even if RL gets busy. Thank you so much, Laura! Our three current archive staffers feel like they have the queue under control, so we'll be holding off on replacing Laura for the moment. Hufflepuff: 787 Slytherin: 740 Ravenclaw: 528 Gryffindor: 379 This month, we're all going to be taking a walk in a winter wonderland. We've teased you a bit about this, and now it's time to lay (most of ) our cards on the table. Last year, things got pretty hectic over the last few months of the house cup, which some of you mentioned in your responses to our end of year survey. To break things up a bit more, we shifted our events around. This year, we'll be having the FROGS in January... and that means doing our reviewing event in December! The holiday season in theoretically a time of togetherness, and we wanted to embrace that... and not just within our houses. You'll be teamed up with a different house for each of the first three weekends of December (Saturday-Tuesday), where you'll be working together to beat the other team in a snowball fight. Those teams will have special names, common rooms, and even some blinkies to show your team pride in your signature if you'd like. You'll have the chance to earn extra points and extra snowballs over the course of the fight... and even have the opportunity to block some of the other team's snowballs. We'll also be featuring our prefects' winter writing challenge (which will have some really awesome prizes!) and just playing a lot of fun, low-stress games. The wonderland opens tonight, and the first reviewing snowball fight will start on December 1 at midnight, GMT. We hope you'll check it out! Our first head student has been one of the most active and enthusiastic members of HPFT since the site opened a year and a half ago. We were thrilled to be able to bump them up to prefect last month, and this month has been no exception in their activity. Please join us in congratulating... @BlackPixie! Our second head student is also one of our new prefects. She's come back to the community fairly recently, but she's already made a huge impression with her unfailing friendliness, encouragement, and hard work - most recently, in the NaNo nests and in the Hufflepuff Common Room. A huge thank you to... @Renacerá! A huge congrats to you both - we're thrilled to have you on the team. Please PM me with your choice of what story of yours that you'd like to be featured on the archive, and thank you for everything you do for HPFT! With the chaos of the summer, perfect changes, and the House Cup events, we have missed a few months, but we are back and would like to congratulate this month’s recipient of the Order of Merlin… @BellaLestrange87 Olivia has been an active and friendly presence on the site since it opened, first as a prefect and then as a member of the staff. She’s always willing to lend a helping hand and is always around to answer questions or participate in activities both site-wide and in the Ravenclaw common room. Recently, she has been a commanding presence in the queue, helping validate numerous chapters since she became an Auror, as well as being a huge help in organizing many of the sites upcoming activities. Congratulations once again to Olivia! (award to be edited in) A huge congratulations to @FlamingQuilltips for winning December's SotM! Is destiny determined by Chance or Choice? If it is a bit of both, then, the story began years before that fateful Halloween night. It began before the Prophesy was made. It began when a small, puny boy chanced upon a bright, cheerful young girl. 8. Hello, all! One of your headmistresses may or may not have been slowly losing her mind over the topic clutter every month , so we decided to compile all of our major monthly announcements into one big bulletin that we'll post at the beginning of the month. (Plus a few headers, because why not.) Hopefully you enjoy this new format! We're happy to announce that @MalfoysAngel will be moving over the gamekeeper position. We won't be adding another professor to replace her right now - we had a couple really strong applications for the position, but our current professors feel like they've got the workload well in hand for the moment. We're sad to announce that @Diogenissa will be stepping down from her position as Slytherin prefect. Karen was one of our very first prefects, and we've loved having her on the team. Thank you, Karen! However, we are very excited to announce that we're welcoming several new people to the prefect team! @BlackPixie (Slytherin) @forever_dreaming (Ravenclaw) @Renacerá (Hufflepuff) @Rumpelstiltskin (Slytherin) Congratulations to all of you - we're psyched to have you on board! congrats awards by @abhorsen. It is officially NaNoWriMo! (Or at least, it is for at least some of you. ) Whether you're aiming for 50k words of a story, are planning to include school papers or reviews in your final word count, or are just rebelling with your own rules, you're welcome in the Crazies' Cafe! We'll be running rat races, talking about our projects, cheering each other on, and procrastinating by playing games all month. In celebration of NaNo, we'll even be opening up the archive's queue - you can now submit five new chapters at a time for the entire month. Happy writing! Our first head student has been a huge asset for her house during a number of House Cup activities, including (most recently) CLUEDO! She's also a dependable, engaged prefect who we know we can always count on. Please join us in congratulating... @clevernotbrilliant! Our second head student is a regular fixture in her common room and has stood out on the archive as well, posting several new chapters and leaving her fellow HPFTers some very lovely and encouraging reviews. Please give it up for... @dirigibleplums! Congratulations to you both - this is super deserved. Please PM me with your choice of what story of yours that you'd like to be featured on the archive, and thank you for everything that you do! awards by @abhorsen.
