Announcing... Teams Gorgon and Griffin!   12/14/2017

Your third and final snowball fight is just just over a day away, and your special team common rooms are now open in the Courtyard! For this fight, Hufflepuff and Slytherin will form team Gorgon, while Gryffindor and Ravenclaw will form team Griffin! The official topics in your common rooms will unlock tomorrow, but you're very welcome to use the space now to decide on a strategy, ask the staff for clarification on any rules, and just get to know each other if you don't already.

What is Fic Night?

Recommended Posts

Twice a month, the HPFT staff will be hosting a YouTube series called Fic Night. It'll be an interactive experience where everyone can cuddle up with a blanket and some popcorn to listen to a fantastic story being read by one of the staffers (there may or may not be rocking chairs involved). Following the reading, we'll be hosting a live discussion of the story where you can live chat questions and comments. If you're unable to make it to the live reading/discussion, you'll still be able to participate in the discussion via the comment section on our YouTube channel.

In order for Fic Night to run smoothly, we need your stories! Once a month, we'll post a thread indicating that it's time to send in your stories. We'll provide the form and you'll submit your stories--not anyone else's. This is a fantastic opportunity to get your work out there and to participate in a discussion of the stories you've created! Responding to our call for stories indicates that you give HPFT permission to read and post your story recording on YouTube, with credit of course.

BUT WAIT! There are a few rules first:

1. It must be a piece of fan fiction that you wrote. Any fandom is allowed.

2. The piece must be completed. One-shots preferable, but we are open to longer pieces that could be read as a series.

3. The piece must follow our rules for content. Don't make the staffers read porn. Just don't do it.

4. Your piece cannot already exist as a FFAB recording or podcast.

You may or may not be aware of HPFT's affiliation with Fanfiction Audiobooks. If not, check out this section. Fanfiction Audiobooks turns your stories into audio recordings and hosts round-table discussions (among other things). Fic Night works in tandem with FFAB to bring you interactive experiences with fanfiction on multiple platforms.

We want you to be as involved in this process as possible, so after our call for stories has expired, we'll have all of YOU vote on which stories you'd love us to read during our Fic Nights. We'll turn your top picks into interactive readings and discussions on our YouTube channel.

If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to post them below.

Well, I don't have any questions other than... WHEN is this awesomeness going to start? It sounds like SO. MUCH. FUN!

Glad you're both excited! We are too. :)

We'll be advertising for stories mid-month, so in just a couple days. The plan is to start the series officially in July.

This seems a whole lot like my old Story Seekers podcast/livestream at HPPC. Glad to see some form of it is still surviving.  :)

I really enjoyed the first fic night! But I was at working during the live stream and so I'm wondering, where does the discussion happen during live stream? I looked around everywhere I could think of but didn't find it. I'm sorry if this is explained somewhere!

Me and my son really enjoyed the first fic night. Thank you for broadcasting

livestream, Tammi and Rumpel!

I thought of leaving review on Fic Night youtube channel, but nobody seemed to do that. Should I post review here or there on youtube?

We're likely going to start threads here, on the forums, to continue the discussion from Fic Night. It seems like the easiest thing to do, since not everyone has a YouTube account.

Thank you, Gina! I guess we can discuss each fic using Spoiler Show&Hide button like we did at "The Cursed Child First Thoughts" thread.  :)

How long should we wait between having a story in a call for stories 'win' and get discussed in Fic Night and submitting another story to a call for stories? Just wondering if there should be/is some kind of rule I missed somewhere :)

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We'll be adding this to the rules:

If your story was chosen for a Fic Night from a particular round of stories, please sit out the following round. Once that round has passed, you are free to submit another story. For example, if your story is chosen during "Call for Stories III," you would sit out "Call for Stories IV" and could submit a new story for "Call for Stories V."

We hope to get it (or some type of story reading, at least, such as the one we released for April Fool's) off the ground again over the next several months. It will be something our new social media staffer we'll be promoting shortly will be looking at as a medium-range goal. :)
