800 words of heaven
Hello! I'm 800 words of heaven, known as 800 for short, because it reminds me of 007 - and I like to pretend that I'm as cool as a super spy, sometimes I've been reading Harry Potter fanfic for a loooong time, and I began writing in 2011. Only in 2015 did I feel brave enough to venture into another fandom! My OF future still awaits me, but I'm always working towards working up the courage to try my hand at it. Here are the places you can find me:AO3 (Harry Potter-related) | AO3 (Other fandom-related)FFHPFFHPFTTumblrTwitter Feel free to drop by and have a chat about anything, really! just.a.willow.tree
HI I'M SO HAPPY YOU STARTED ONE OF THESE I'LL BE BACK WITH MORE QUESTIONS BUT FOR NOW: I really, really love your Hannah, and how in tune with her culture she is. What are some of your other favorite HP character of color headcanons? edit; that sounded so aggressive omg Edited December 26, 2017 by just.a.willow.tree
800 words of heaven
Hello! Thank you so much for dropping by @just.a.willow.tree! And it wasn't aggressive at all - more furiously welcoming, which I am ALL about! Hmm. I haven't really thought about other PoC headcanons all that much, since I haven't written any yet. I like the idea of an Indian James Potter, but that doesn't seem like quite the right fit to me (about which tumblr disagrees!). Although, that is a strange thought, that a character has to "fit" a certain ethnicity. I think that comes a lot from how I've always read Harry - as very white. It's difficult to see him through another lens. I saw a fanart once of a Vietnamese Black family, which I loved. Not exactly a headcanon, though, since I still write Sirius - and picture him in my head - as white. But if someone writes a story of a Vietnamese Sirius Black, I will most definitely read it to bits and pieces! Ooh! I just remembered that I do have one PoC headcanon, after all! I see Rolf Scamander as Indian - I even have a faceclaim for him! (It's Ranveer Singh, especially with a full blown beard *swoons a little*) I had this idea for a story where Rolf is this spoilt upper class kid who's got this affected ennui, but for some reason, he gets shipped back off to the motherland, and finds himself - and most importantly - sincerity and an actual reason to be proud of himself, there. This is, of course, all long before he meets Luna, like he's still in his 20s - probably early to mid. I should seriously make a mood board for this guy's aesthetic, because it's all high tea at the Ritz, old Rajasthani forts, Sabyasachi fashion, and a dash of gentrified hipster. I will one day write this story, simply because that vibe is too good to pass up, but I've made a promise to myself to not start any long-term writing project until I've finished my current WIPs. Well. That turned out to be a much longer answer than I expected! I hope you enjoy that meander through a (possible?) future Rolf Scamander story - which shall remain a beautiful headcanon for now! 800 words of heaven
Just had this great idea last night about writing a story where a group of just-out-of-Hogwarts kids plan to (probably illegally) brew and distribute wolfsbane potion to the werewolf community. I image that it's quite difficult to get your hands on the stuff, what with one having to declare that they're a werewolf first! I would like to write it as a almost a heist movie! But, alas! I'm not sure which characters I'd use for my nefarious plan...
Stella Blue
^ I would absolutely read this. Do you see it as a next-gen, or Hogwarts-era, or what time period? Maybe that'll help you come up with which characters to use?

At least my version definitely would if Wolfsbane wasn't already easily available to werewolves by the time he reaches adulthood in my 'verse. I could see Rose doing it too.

That has been a big problem. I can also see Teddy doing it, but I feel like by that time, the potion would be more readily available, with fewer regulations. And the problem with doing it post-Hogwarts era is that the main "motivation", that being Remus Lupin, is gone. I'm leaning more towards a Next Gen character at the moment, but to figure out the logistics of why anyone would do anything of this sort will require further rumination... just.a.willow.tree
I definitely think that making a lot of money could be a huge motivation. Werewolves likely aren't as uncommon as people think, and I think the stigma would take a long time to die down, especially after a lot of the werewolves joining Voldemort during the Second Wizarding War. Teddy sounds like a great character for this, too, since he has the connection to his father. BUT THIS IS SUCH A COOL IDEA PLEASE WRITE THIS.
toomanycurls
If you look at any how people have worked to get aids treatment to people in the US and around the world there are a lot of examples as to why people would be interested in doing this (outside of just money). You could have a Dallas Buyers Club situation where they are providing the potion at cost by getting ingredients from somewhere else. You could have the ministry consider it a public health crisis where they seize the potion recipe and distribute it to people to stop an outbreak. So many options.
800 words of heaven
Hmm. Maybe I'm accelerating the likely werewolf reforms that would've taken place by the time Next Gen rolls around. He definitely has the best motivation in my mind. I don't want this coming from a place of monetary gain. Definitely was thinking that the potion is distributed at cost/below cost/free - but that's also a discussion that I want the characters to have. Aside from actual characters, I've started thinking about the roles of the crew. Leader/potion maker Money Procurer of ingredients Ministry contact - to perhaps get possible names/be their government spy St Mungo's contact - could work as a sort of point of first contact for newly infected werewolves/get a list of possible names Werewolf community contact If I go with Teddy as the leader - which I think is my best option so far, I don't think it would be that difficult to assign other Wotter kids jobs in this ring of conspiracy - except for the money person. The obvious choice here is Scorpius, because whilst I imagine a lot of the Weasleys are well off, they're not exactly a fountain of gold - especially when it comes to their kids' clandestine, illegal activities. A possible workaround this is that the "money" person somehow gets access to dormant Gringotts vaults - I was thinking the Lestrange one, specifically. Could be feasible and vindictive at the same time.
victoria_anne
Hey 800 aka my fellow Australian! I'm here for the 2018-2019 House Cup opener with a few questions! 1. Hi. How's it going? 2. So your CHAI series is the most aesthetically pleasing thing ever. What is it about Hannah and Neville's relationship that calls to you? 3. Do you have a writing routine? Like, have to have a snack or listen to music? 4. Would you rather have an Invisiblity Cloak or a Time Turner? 5. How's the OF venture going? 6. If you had all the time and inspiration in the world, what kind of epic fanfiction story would you write? For me it would be a big relationship story like a Tonks/Andromeda or an Arthur/Molly Have a good day!
800 words of heaven
NOT NORMAL There are several things to say about this project. In no particular, they are: - This fic was my second fanfic ever - This fic is my oldest WIP - 2012 was a long time ago. If anyone ever finds the original six chapters, they will understand what I'm talking about. 2012 800 was just keen to get words on the page, and not worry too much about their quality. I sometimes miss 2012 800. She was, in many ways, fearless - I started rewriting the fic in 2016. I stymied after chapter 3 in 2017. I regret the stymie, but I am forever thankful to Paula who - unbeknown to her - bravely took on a very lazy writer lol - I am very keen to make a good crack into this story. October 31 will be my last official day of med school. November 1 will be the start of the last great "holiday" in my life. I plan to seriously devote a good chunk of time to smashing out some words! The plot: - It's a classic next gen fic! Adventure! Romance! Cliches! Tropes! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE. - In the spirit of mainstream 2012 next gen fics, it's a hetero Al/OC fic - In the spirit of a writer who's learnt the value and beauty of diversity, the main OC, Ellie is of East Asian descent. Never written an East Asian character before, so I look forward to this community's feedback on this aspect! - The story follows Ellie, who can see a different type of ghost than the usual Hogwarts fare, as she tackles NEWTs, relationships in all their variety, and a quest thrust upon her by the Founders four themselves! Woohoo! I'm part-pantsing, part-planning this NaNo. Wish me luck! I'll need it!
just.a.willow.tree
THIS IS SO EXCITING. I looove this story with all my heart, and hearing about how it’s grown and adapted over the years just makes me love it more. And an East Asian character!! Yay!!! 💛💛💛 Very very good luck with this project, I’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines—and congrats on the end of med school arriving! I have a couple questions: - Will you rewrite the first three chapters again or continue from where you’ve left off? - Are there any other particularly major changes you’ve made from the original version? I’ll try and come back with more!

Your enthusiasm for this project is very, very appreciated - and much needed (lol)! To answer your questions: - I will not be rewriting the first three chapters. I've reread them to prep for NaNo, and surprisingly, I don't hate them. I think it helps a lot that I haven't written a lot for the last several years, so I feel like my writing hasn't changed all that much since I wrote them. I reckon I could continue writing the novel without worrying too much that there will be a vast difference in the "voice" of the first three chapters and the NaNo chapters. - I don't think there are too many major changes from the original version, simply because I hadn't written all that much of it. I've cut out a couple of scenes and two secondary characters. I think the cutting of these characters will be the biggest departure from the "original version". I wish I could include them, but I felt like they weren't quite fitting into the plot and that I couldn't write a larger cast like that, which ultimately meant that I couldn't do them justice. Maybe I'll include them in a future fic one day... They will, for better or worse, have to wait for me to be writer they deserve! A quick update on day 1: I spent most of the day avoiding writing. Classic 800. But in the last couple hours of the day, I managed to write more than I have in ages! This has made me happier than I thought it would! I can do this! 2012 800 still exists somewhere inside 2019 800! Current WC: 429
800 words of heaven
I am celebrating crossing the 5k mark! Woohoo! This has already become my most successful NaNo! I've managed to write for three days in a row, write 5000 words, and not only catch up but surpass the daily goal for day 3! It's all winning from here, honestly. 800 words of heaven
Crossed 10k today. I am not as excited about this milestone as I was for the 5k one, because I wanted to achieve it yesterday, and I didn't. Man, writing is hard. Well, writing isn't hard, but writing consistently, every day, is proving to be a challenge. I am on this hilly ride with you, fellow NaNoers! It's just been one of those days. Guest Tanda
hiya! I have some questions for you. 1 The impression about your old stories is that your excellent expression around tea... what's your favorite beverage? 2. I remember your Neville. Do you still write or rewrite Neville this year? 3. What genre do you think good at writing the most?

I've actually written a character who has a lowkey coffee addiction. Guess I love writing about beverages! 2) No plans to write about Hannah and Neville so far. But who knows? Maybe inspiration will strike. 3) I think fluff is my strongest genre. The lack of plot makes it easier to write, I think And I'm a sucker for a happy ending! A NaNo update: I ended up rebelling today, and writing a completely different story to the one I intended to write. I really only wanted to focus on Not Normal this month, but oddly, inspiration struck for a one-shot. It's been so long since I've just had a story idea, so I swallowed my weird guilt about not being able to stick to the one project, and smashed it out. I'm counting it towards my word count, because it's still creative writing - which was the overall aim for NaNo for me, I guess. The story is quite different from what I usually write, so I'll look forward to your feedback, once I post it to the archives in December. Petunia Dursley is the main character, weirdly enough. The words came so easily, which surprised me, since I didn't think I could write characters that I didn't like!
MrsDarcy
This sounds so exciting! kinda love that you're re-writing too - old me was lazy as well Tell us some more about Ellie! Is there a reason why she can see ghosts no one else can (or is that a secret yet to be told?) and what draws you to her as a character? Does she have any quirks? I love writing about beverages as well! especially tea, even though I don't like tea, I'm definitely a black coffee addict. I really need to read this fic when available - ah, so exciting! PS: congrats on your med-degree - that's super cool

PS: congrats on your med-degree - that's super cool Rewriting was fine until I wrote past whatever I'd written before. I'm in "uncharted" territory now, and it's terrifying! Ellie is a total nerd! She has wide interests, and she loves to know about the world around her - Muggle and magical. So she's the type to read A Brief History of Time and Percy Jackson, as well as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She has a "special power" (I told you this fic was sooo 2011 :P) where she can see other kinds of ghosts than the garden variety at Hogwarts. That plays into the story, and understandably, defines a lot of who she is, but she hasn't figured that out yet. She's loyal as heck, and is here to cheer on her brother and her friends. She's on the spectrum of anxiety, but maybe wouldn't meet diagnostic criteria for it. Lol, I have an entire series of short stories named after tea, and it's not my favourite beverage either, although I feel that it is the most versatile. I'm a flat white and cappucino kinda gal myself when it comes to coffee, but the character who's a coffee addict (she's the MC in Like a Multiverse on Fire), is a black coffee nut, just like you! And thank you! It is both terrifying and exciting being an actual doctor now! I may or may not be ready for this, but I'm glad for the break from school, for a while at least!
shadowycorner
Hello I'm stopping by because of Not Normal and would like to know more about this exciting story! 1. It seems like a story with a serious, high-stakes premise. If I'm correct, how do you manage to write a story like that with so much action/adventure, but keep the mood very fun and playful at the same time? 2. What I've read of Albus so far, he seems quite different from the usual depictions, what inspired him and why is he so mean and snarky? 3. Why did you choose the main character to have a twin and how much will the twin dynamic be a part of their story? 4. Why the ghost-seeing power? Thank you and I'm really excited to read more of Not Normal
