Challenge Name: The Snazzy Words Challenge

Challenge Deadline: August 10

Accepted Fandom(s): Harry Potter is easiest for me, but I'm open to other options so feel free to ask!

Accepted Ratings: Anything accepted on HPFT.

Challenge Details:

  • There is a list of words below, definition included. The point of the challenge is to include as many of the words as possible into a story.
  • The words must be used according to their definition.
  • Word count: 3000 words max; one chapter only.
  • A fresh one-shot is preferred, but not mandatory. You can add a new chapter to a pre-existing story.
  • Minor changes to the listed words (i.e., adapting tenses, using a plural instead of a singular) are fine. You may also use 'bamboozle', 'flabbergast' and 'discombobulate' as adjectives rather than verbs if preferred.
  • Please include the name of the challenge in your story summary.

Now, onto the list! All definitions save for 'cattywampus' (also spelled 'catawampus') are from the Oxford Dictionary of English.

  • Bamboozle, v.: cheat or fool.
  • Flabbergast, v.: surprise (someone) greatly; astonish.
  • Discombobulate, v.: disconcert or confuse (someone).
  • Shenanigans, pl. n.: secret or dishonest activity or manoeuvring. Silly or high-spirited behaviour, mischief.
  • Cattywampus, adj.:  not lined up or not arranged correctly.
  • Lollygag, v.: spend time aimlessly; idle. Dawdle.
  • Malarkey, n.: meaningless talk; nonsense.
  • Kerfuffle, n.: a commotion or fuss, especially one caused by conflicting views.
  • Brouhaha, n.: a noisy and overexcited reaction or response to something.
  • Nincompoop, n.: a foolish or stupid person.
  • Skedaddle, v.: depart quickly or hurriedly; run away.
  • Pumpernickel, n.: dark, dense German bread made from coarsely ground wholemeal rye.

Rewards:

  • A review per entry
  • Graphic awards
  • Five additional reviews for the author in first place
  • Three additional reviews for the author in second place
  • An additional review for the author in third place

Have fun, and please don't hesitate to ask for clarification!

I'm going to channel my professors and go with a 10% margin!

Absolutely!

Yes, but I'll be counting each entry separately -- if you use all the words over different entries, it won't count as them having been all used, if that makes sense?
