We have reviewed the proposed leads that you've identified and are happy to report that they meet with our initial approval. For those of you still on the hunt for any leads, do carry on your search! Unfortunately, whatever your situation, your publishers have indicated that you will each be restricted to using three (3) of the leads applicable to your particular paper. Each article must be between 500-1000 words long.

As you know, these leads focus on important issues of our time(s)! The meat of any newspaper is its articles, so this is the most important task you are facing. Show us those investigative and journalistic chops! For each Article completed, your paper will receive points.

It just so happens that we are also presently evaluating the quality of work being performed at each paper and will be reviewing each submission accordingly. Specifically, we'll be scrutinizing them for:

  • Inclusion of Canon and/or Historical Information;
  • Writing Mechanics;
  • Does It Read Like A Newspaper Article; and
  • Overall Quality & Creativity

The four (4) best Articles as judged by the above criteria will receive extra points. Make sure to make the most of this opportunity for yourselves and your papers!

As always, you're on a deadline...ALL ARTICLES ARE DUE NO LATER THAN END OF DAY 10 AUGUST 2018.

Does It Read Like A Newspaper Article

This is probably too late to ask this but just in case: journalism has gone through some weird Phases. Does it have to read strictly like a completely objective, journalist-is-invisible piece, or can we do some New Journalism and/or the current trend of feature articles describing the interview as it's taking place, that kind of thing?

Basically, the point is that we don't want it to read like a story. I know there can be overlap depending on a particular publication's style and purpose and a particular author's style and experiments. However, generally speaking, if you sit down and read the Sunday paper and then turn around and hop on HPFT to read some fanfic, you are going to encounter two very different tones. You have some artistic/creative license, but we want you to sound like you're reporting on something. We want you to write something that, when we read it, reminds us of reading a newspaper compared to hopping on the archives and pulling up a random story. I know that's pretty vague, but hopefully it makes sense.
