Move from HTTP to HTTPS

by Alopex at 10 Nov 2018 02:37 AM

HPFT has finally gotten with the modern times and moved from http://hpfanfictalk.com to https://hpfanfictalk.com.

-Both the archives and the forums are using https now.

-Please update any bookmarks you have.

-There's a chance you'll have to clear your cache.

-If you have images (banners, sigs, etc) that have an http URL, it would be helpful to your fellow members' browsing experiences if you could update them to an https URL.

This change means the ugly notices your browser gives you about HPFT not being secure should be going away now. The exception is going to be on pages where there is mixed content, meaning content that is being served from http rather than https. I have updated everything HPFT-side I could find (images, fonts, site clock), but some of you have banners and signatures and such out there that have an http URL. If you visit a page that has one of those on it, you'll still get a warning--only now it'll be about part of the page not being secure rather than the whole website. :P

Let us know if you encounter issues that are different than normal and that don't go away after clearing your cache.

Ratings/Advisories Change

by abhorsen. at 20 May 2018 07:12 AM

We'd like to announce two ratings/advisories changes.

First, the 'Hate Speech' advisory has been broken down into two advisories: 'Derogatory Language' and 'Hate Speech.' The 'Hate Speech' advisory continues to require an M rating but is now reserved for only the most egregious and socially unacceptable uses of slurs. The new 'Derogatory Language' advisory captures other usage of slurs, and can apply to both T-rated and M-rated stories.

Second, the 'Sexual Assault' advisory has also been broken down into two advisories: 'Consent Issues (Mild/Moderate)' and 'Consent Issues (Severe).' The 'Consent Issues (Mild/Moderate)' advisory can be apply to both T-rated and M-rated stories, and indicates that a story includes some relatively non-invasive unwanted touching, non-detailed reference to sexual assault of adults, and dubious consent situations. The 'Consent Issues (Severe)' advisory requires an M rating and applies to detailed depiction of sexual assault or reference to the sexual assault of children.

To ensure that nothing requiring the stronger advisory ended up inadequately warning readers, we added new advisories for less severe advisories. With these revised rules, your story may be okay at the less severe advisories; please feel free to adjust ratings/advisories accordingly, and contact us with any questions!

Please see the Staff Tutorials for further details.

No Queue Limit Reminder

by abhorsen. at 29 Mar 2018 05:42 AM

We've gotten a lot of new members recently, and we just wanted to remind everyone that we abolished our queue limit earlier this year - you can put as many chapters into the queue at once as you like. If you put a lot of chapters in, keep in mind that it might take us a little while to get through it, because we will validate individual chapter updates first, but you won't have to do anything other than wait for the validation emails to come in/deal with any potential rejections. :)

Eliminating 'New Chapter' Limit

by abhorsen at 03 Jan 2018 07:22 PM

Effectively immediately, HPFT will be abolishing all queue limits on the archive. Members will be permitted to submit as many new chapters to the queue at a time as they'd like - just know that if you submit 75 chapters at once, it might take us a little while to work through them, and we'll also be keeping the queue clear for other stories before returning to your chapters (so other authors who are just submitting a couple chapters aren't stuck waiting).

Change in archive staff

by abhorsen at 03 Jan 2018 07:21 PM

We're pleased to announce that Renacerá will be joining the archive staff - you'll likely see her poking around the queue in the near future!

Reviewing Competition!

by abhorsen at 04 Dec 2017 07:59 AM

This month, HPFT is running a reviewing competition in the form of a snowball fight! Saturday-Tuesday of the first three weekends of the month will see the houses paired off into teams. They'll be leaving reviews on the archive to build forts and hurl snowballs at each other - and they'll have some whiteouts, blizzards, and even occasional flurries to deal with. If you're interested in taking part, whether you have time to leave a handful of reviews or dozens of them, stop over at the forums and find your team in the Winter Wonderland sub-forum to get started!

Guidelines/Advisory Updates

by abhorsen at 10 Sep 2017 07:24 PM

Hello, all!

We've updated our site guidelines and advisories. There aren't many changes, but we ask that you look them over and refamiliarize yourselves with them. The most significant differences:

  1. We've added a stalking advisory and a section on where you should be using it under the 'Sensitive Content' area in the Site Guidelines. We won't penalize already-posted stories which depict stalking for not adding it to their advisories, but if you would like to add it to relevant stories to warn readers about potentially upsetting content, it would be very appreciated.

  2. We've updated the graphic award guidelines to allow 300x300 awards in your story notes. However, keep in mind that you are still limited to four graphic awards per story, and if any of your awards exceed the 300x300 dimensions, you should shrink them them or potentially face having them removed. If you have any questions about this, please contact abhorsen either via email [admin@archive.hpfanfictalk.com] or on the forums.

We've also fixed some some minor formatting errors in other documents on the archive.

Thank you!

Certified Author Review (Summer 2017)

by Admin at 25 Aug 2017 08:27 AM

Our summer reviews for Certified Author status have been completed, and people who have been granted the ability to bypass the queue have been notified using the email they used to register their archive account. If you'd like to read more about how we make our decisions about CA status, you can check out this entry in the staff blog over on the forums. :)

Change in archive staff

by Admin at 25 Aug 2017 08:22 AM

We're very sorry to announce that pookha has had to step down from his position as validator. He's been an asset to the archive since we opened, and we'll miss him in the queue.

Stepping over from her position as a forum moderator to take his place is BellaLestrange87. We're excited to have her on board, and we know that she'll be wonderful in this role as well.

Queue Limit Changes

by Admin at 11 May 2017 03:12 AM

Increase Queue Limit
On an on-going basis we'll allow 2 new chapters in the queue at once. We hope this will let people update stories as well as bring in stories from other sites.

Five for Five
For the first five days of each month we'll allow five new chapters in the queue at once. We might cancel on months where the queue is too far behind or there are too many validators gone at once but starting June 1st, you'll have five days to get five new chapters at once.

You can read more and comment here.

HPFT Forum House Option

by Admin at 06 Feb 2017 07:39 PM

Hogwarts Houses are a big deal on our forums; there are many house-specific events and competitions, and the four Houses compete throughout the year to take home the House Cup.

Many of our members have requested an option for authors who are also on the HPFT forums to identify their house, to facilitate house-wide events. After putting up a poll, we found that a large majority of members wanted the option, so we've added a category for it.

Please note that you will have to go in and add the tag to each of your stories manually; however, you will not need to edit your chapters or put the story back through the queue for it to be added. :)
