Awww. This was so sweet! I’m smiling so widely after reading this—and as a general note, I find that I really adore this Recovery series, putting a positive twist on the war. All the stories from it that I’ve read so far have left me feeling really happy and I think it’s wonderful that you’ve turned something that could be negative into something far more positive.
Okay so I too have always thought that Ollivander would still be friends with Luna—and I liked the dynamic that you established for them. The beginning really established Olivander as someone who is methodical and careful, who is very grounded to Earth, y’know, and it would seem that, as Ollivander pointed out, he and Luna wouldn’t quite get along, as Luna isn’t very grounded. But I think that they share some characteristics too; they’re both perceptive and certainly have a sense of intuition about things. So I think they’re an unlikely friendship, but in the end, perfect friends for one another.
I really lobed the description of how Luna became like a source of light and hope. And I also have to say that I appreciate that this story is focused on a positive recuperation for Ollivander; I think that after such a trauma, it would be very possible that he would never quite recover (and perhaps he hasn’t really?) But that he is back to making wands and still thriving was something that actually gave me hope.
His choices for her wand were perfect. The letter at the end was my favorite part of this fic—though on a whole, I really loved this. Wonderfully done! <3
After the last heartbreaker of a story, I thought this might be a nice pick me up! And what a wonderful story it was! I think it was so sweet and so thoughtful of Ollivander to make Luna a new wand. In fact, I love this so much that I might have to headcannon this now. What a great idea!
I also love the attention to detail that Ollivander put into this. Of course Luna would require a unique wand. She isn't the sort of person who would fit a drangonheartsrting or phoenix feather wand. I absolutely love that in the end he picks thestral hair. What a unique and interesting idea! And it's so fitting of Luna since she loves the thestrals.
Also, am I sensing a theme here? Two stories in a row where thestrals make an appearance?
The note was also a very nice touch. I always found Ollivander a bit creepy since we see him through Harry's eyes and Harry finds him creepy, but here he's sweet and thoughtful. What a nice way to thank Luna for her friendship and support!
Great work as always! Your writing is truly a treasure!
That was beautiful. I loved the way that you combined the sentimental with the technical in a seamless tale of crafting the perfect wand for Luna. Ollivander's thoughts came across perfectly as he winnowed down the options and related his choices to the wand's intended owner. The tale of the captivity was nicely done.
Suggestions? Longer, please? Maybe the story of Luna opening the package?
This is one of the sweetest stories I've ever read and I think you're entirely right about Luna and Garrick. I can see it quite plainly in my head. I love how you went through the motions of explaining how he made the wand and how it had to be just right for her and his recollections of her "silly stories" and how they helped it- I just- *squee*
So, I actually went tiptoeing through to find a good fluff story for SOTM fluff noms and you just churn them out like BUTTER! And now I have to think of which one I liked more. Can't I just nom them all??? T_T
