Hello, hello!

I love a good James/Lily fic -- it’s always entertaining reading about how Lily grows so accustomed to James asking her out that when he stops in their seventh year, she becomes slightly concerned (and a little disappointed :P). I thought this was super interesting because it actually sounded like Lily said “no” almost by accident the first time -- that it was just a reflex that she hadn’t really thought through -- and that all the other “no”s that followed were simply because of the precedence she’d set. Obviously, that’s not 100% it, but I’m hoping that’s mostly the case hehe.

While I don’t think a girl should feel obligated to be kind to a guy who’s asking her out over and over despite previous rejections, I do believe that someone should be nice when rejecting someone for the first time. The way that Lily made James ask her out extravagantly again sdgklshk it’s almost cruel putting him through that when he thinks he’ll just be rejected again! Though he very well could have said no, I suppose. The whole time, I was shouting for Lily to ask him out extravagantly herself! :’)

This was super cute, thank you for sharing! <3

Love, Eva

Hello lovely!

I love a good Jily so I had no choice but to stop by. I love the opening line of him having the most massive crush of all time because a hopelessly infatuated James is the best James. He is quite tenacious.

No has become such a reflex that if she said yes I wonder if he’d actually hear it and process it or just assume it was a no.

I love the way you wrote the compare and contrast of how James sees things versus how Lily sees them. She’s terrified of the embarrassing display he’s going to put on, he’s under the impression that the more over the top the more he shows her his true feelings.

I heard the flu was going around. Lol

That is an awful lot of rejection to try to process. He’d be great at interviewing for jobs though with all of that practice.

The git is a perfect nickname tbh.

This was such a cute, fluffy light hearted little story and I loved it! Thank you for taking the time to write it! :)

I'm so sorry for taking so long to respond to this review but I'm getting to it now. I too love a good jily, if I'm ever feeling sad, I just go in search of Jily and it honestly makes me feel loads better.

I feel like if Lily said yes, James would probably assume she said no and then when it finally registered that she had actually said yes, he would probably trip over a table or a chair or something because it seems like a very James thing that would happen.

He probably would've been much more successful at wooing Lily if the two had ever bothered talking about what kinds of displays they were comfortable with.

Thank you so much for leaving a review!

Hello! I saw that no-one had reviewed this story so far and thought I should remedy the situation :)

This is such a sweet story to detail the processes which led to James and Lily’s union. From canon, we know that there was a lot of conflict and tension between the pair, and then they started going out in seventh year, but there was no information as to how that gap was breached. This story fits that chasm very well and gives plausible explanations as to how the two eventually got together.

Poor James; taking rebuff after rebuff must have been incredibly hard for his ego to bear. I’m impressed by his persistence over the years! It must have been tough to keep persevering, despite the constant repressive feedback he received.

Lily, of course, had her own reasons as to why she constantly declined James’s advances, although it is a shame she didn’t consider her first ever answer more carefully if she said “no” without really thinking about it! It was understandable, given Lily’s determination, however, that once she said “no”, she really meant it, and would become very annoyed and/or angry with James for ignoring this. It must have taken her completely by surprise to discover that James had been made Head Boy alongside her, and also that he stopped giving her any attention during seventh year. Well played on James’s part, here! It was clear that Lily found this infuriating but also magnetic when James played it cool, and it stirred up her interest … awww!! <3 The little James anecdotes were adorable, and I’m not surprised they played on her mind to make him seem even more attractive.

The way that Lily dealt with all of this was hilarious, demanding that James ask her out, and not only that, but in the style to which she had become accustomed. I’m glad she responded eventually with a big answer in kind :)

A really cute story! I enjoyed reading this :)

Wow thank you so much for stopping by and dropping a review on this oneshot!

My favourite to write is Jily, and if you were to see what I've been doing on tumblr, it's also very apparent that I love reading about Jily. There just isn't a lot known besides some basics so it's a lot of fun to fill in the gaps of what could've happened, especially because both of them were such nerds.

I don't blame Lily for getting angry, after all she's practically getting harassed at that point when no means no should have been enough for James. Annoying someone in an attempt to get a date out of them is actually not a good idea in terms of romantic wooing and I would not recommend it at all as a strategy. But I also think that Lily probably got used to it as some point and the anger and annoyance was just a reflex response. You don't really notice something has become a part of your routine and everyday living until it disappears and you start to miss it instead of being relieved that it disappeared. And I don't know about James playing it cool, he probably just caught on to the fact that he was being really annoying and that it was probably pushing Lily away instead of getting her to like him.

Thank you so much for reviewing I really appreciate it!
