I'm back to leave another review for Team Phoenix for the Winter Wonderland event. This story looks really good and I can't wait to read it. Dominique isn't written about as much as some of the other next generation characters, which I think is a shame because she's really interesting. Anyway, I'm curious to see your take on her, so I'm just gonna stop talking now and start reading :P
Omg. I love Dominique. Aww, she loves animals and magical creatures. I don't think I've ever seen anyone write her like that, but it's amazing. I like that she's different. She kind of reminds me of Luna in that sense, and that's not bad at all. In fact, she'd probably get really well along with Luna's husband, Rolf, considering they share the same interest. And she's a little bit like her uncle Charlie too. Yeah, this was such a creative take on Dominique, and I think I'm gonna make that my new headcanon for her. And she's close with Hagrid. Well, they too do share the same interesting, so that definitely makes sense. Aww, I love that she meets Hagrid weekly. That was really great to see.
And lol. The fairies remind her of James. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to hear that :P But I like your description of the fairies and their village. It sounds really beautiful. I also found it interesting that she was looking for fairies, who are known to be very vain creatures, because Dominique is as we all know part-veela and is therefore born very beautiful. I liked that. It was great!
So yeah, amazing story. It was so refreshing to see a different version of Dominique. I think a lot of people tend to either write her as this badass Quidditch player with very strong personality, or like a mini-Fleur with a little bit of Hermione in there. This was just completely different and I loved that. Great job! Thank you so much for sharing!
You know I never really thought about it but you're right, Dom really isn't written as much by everyone which is a darn shame because you could do so many things with her as a character.
I figured it wasn't too far of a stretch to think of Dom as really loving animals, or being really adventurous and outdoorsy especially when she's got a Cursebreaker for a dad and so many people in her life who love nature and animals. Not related to this story but I love Hagrid with all of my heart and he deserves all of the love in the world and I would go to war for that man he's too good for this world. He deserves someone who would be as interested in magical creatures as Dom is.
I think I wrote this right after I finished reading the Inkworld Trilogy for like the fifth time or something and I really loved the way fairies were represented in the series that I took inspiration from them.
Thank you so much for leaving a review!
Hello! Ooh, I don't think that I've seen a story about fairies before, I couldn't resist this!
I really like the idea that Dominique loves magical creatures and exploring. It's such a nice side to her character and sets her apart from the beginning, as well as telling us quite a lot about the sort of person that she is. The idea that she's friends with Hagrid, too, when she arrives at Hogwarts, is wonderful. I don't think I've seen many stories where next generation children who aren't Ron and Hermione's children or Harry and Ginny's children are close with him.
It's so sweet that Hagrid meets with Dominique on a weekly basis to take her exploring into the forest to see new creatures. He really loves people who share his passion for caring for different animals and I loved the way that you formed the bond between them here.
Her friend's comment about the fact that she can't have anything left to see in the forest made me laugh :P
The descriptions of the fairies were so lovely! I really liked the way that you described them, especially the colours, because I could easily imagine these creatures flitting around the forest and messing around with Dominique's hair. They seemed so fun and playful, even if they weren't quite what Dominique was expecting to encounter in fairies - they're not exactly like the Muggle fairy stories suggest, are they?
I loved the way that Hagrid knew so much about the fairies, too - it's so sweet to see that he's actually really passionate and knowledgeable about this. And the line about the fairies reminding her of James because of their vanity was hilarious!
I never really thought about it you don't see stories about other Weasley kids being close to Hagrid which is strange because Hagrid was so close to the Weasley's, not to mention they're all about being a close family so he would obviously be close to all of the Weasley grandchildren. I thought it would've been great that Dom was such an outdoorsy kid, especially since she lives somewhere where she had such easy access to the outdoors and it was safe for her to be outside, and the beach was so close as well.
Man I just want Hagrid to have someone who shares his love of animals and wants to hang out with him and learn about them, Hagrid deserves the best. I'm really glad to hear that you liked the description of the fairies, I actually had so much fun writing and describing them, I think I had just finished reading the Inkheart trilogy when I wrote this and I was inspired by the fairies in that series to describe mine.
Thank you so much for your lovely review!
Hey there, this was such an interesting story!
I like your characterisation of Dominique, and that she is such an animal lover. You created such a cute image of a young Dom looking for animals and I can totally see how her interest would grow! Sounds like me, I've always wanted a pet but all I ever got was a goldfish.
I love her interaction with Hagrid too, that is such a natural friendship and it's also so lovely to see him still having an active role at Hogwarts, and encouraging Dom's love of animals. I love that he's almost like a mentor to her as well, teaching her about the forest and the animals who live there. It's made her so bold, she doesn't even flinch in the forest aha.
The fairies were such cute creatures, although quite mischievous. Poor Dom, I can see why she wouldn't want to add them to her list of creatures she would like to take home haha. I loved how cautious she was as she got closer to the fairies, it shows just how much she cares for the animals, and also how well Hagrid has taught it. It was such a nice detail and really added to the story.
This was a great, cute read, good job! :)
Hey, I'm so glad to hear that you thought it was an interesting story!
I don't think there's a lot of stories about Bill's children when they were actually little, you only read about them when they're in their teen years. It's just nice to see a peek into what could have potentially been their childhood. And honestly, I've always wanted pets, like guinea pigs because my mom won't let dogs into the house and instead I ended up with freaking fish as pets. Fish. Of all things.
Hagrid deserves all of the love to be honest, he's such a good father figure, he was always there for Harry, I totally can imagine him inviting their children to visit for tea and teaching them about animals and how excited and happy he would be to have someone who took as much of an interest as him.
Thank you so much for reviewing!
Oh, I really like this characterization of Dominique! I feel like it's so rare that I see either her or Victoire characterized as something other than mini-Fleurs. Not that Fleur isn't awesome, but it's really great to see something different now and then :D
Dom takes after her dad a bit, methinks. I mean, sure, Charlie's the one who loves magical creatures, but Bill clearly has a great sense of adventure, and we see the same thing in Dom and her willingness to venture into the forest, desire to chase after creatures she catches fleeting glimpses of in the brush, etc.
The description of the fairies and their village was absolutely enchanting! I could picture it clearly in my mind. My favourite details were the tiny enchanted gardens, the lights strung between houses, and the clothes made of leaves. Also, I giggled at the idea of a fairy riding around on a squirrel!
I loved how you had Hagrid support and encourage Dom's interest in magical creatures to such a huge extent. I definitely imagine that he would be thrilled to have someone just as interested as him and willing and eager to venture into the forest in search of new and exciting creatures.
I liked getting some fairy trivia at the end in the form of Dom's questions getting answered by Hagrid. I bet Arctic fairies would be so cute!
Really liked this story, thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a review! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the characterization of Dom, I enjoyed writing her very much. I'm sure Bill even encouraged her to keep chasing after anything interesting that she saw, probably remembering the good ol' days of Cursebreaking that he himself had. I think Fleur and Bill would be a bit relieved to be honest to have children that would want to spend their time playing outside instead of staying indoors.
I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU ENJOYED THE DESCRIPTION OF THE FAIRY VILLAGE! It was honestly my favourite part of the story to write and I had so much fun doing it and I was hoping that someone else would have as much fun reading it and picturing it as I did. Honestly I might do more stories with fairies just so I can go in depth about their way of life.
Hagrid is such a big teddy bear, he's like a father figure to everyone I don't think there is one kid that he wouldn't be enthusiastic about and encourage in whatever activity took their interest. Hagrid is the best and deserves all of the love.
Thank you so much for reviewing!
I'm loving this characterisation of Dom straight away. Everyone handles her so differently but she still seems to be a bit of a princess in other people's stories, so to imagine her going out into the woods to find animals and probably get her hands dirty is refreshing. She reminds me a little bit of Charlie Weasley, being taken under Hagrid's care! What a terrible influence that man is :P
I suppose it's a good thing Dom makes sure her assignments are completed before she goes! How responsible of her.
Bless Hagrid ruffling her hair all of the time. So adorable.
I love this line: If Dom knew anything it was that just because something was small, it didn't mean that it couldn't cause any harm.
Okay a fairy village in the middle of the Forest is the most amazing idea ever. It sounds so beautiful, I'm totally in love!
Hahaha almost as vain as James :P
This story was so sweet and different (like how have I never heard of fairies living on Hogwarts grounds?!), and I really loved it. I love that Hagrid thought to take Dom out and show her the fairies!
I wouldn't be surprised if Dom did have an adventurous streak to her, she is after all the daughter of Bill and Fleur Weasley, and I imagine that Charlie probably would've encouraged her adventurous spirit as well, and Hagrid was probably very excited to find someone as equally interested in animals as he is. I'm sure Fleur caught Dom red-handed several times with her homework not done and probably made some kind of deal with her, like if you bring back good grades I won't ask if you come home with your clothes covered in mud and rips at the seams.
I had so much fun writing this that I think I have some idea stored away of a story involving more fairies on the Hogwarts grounds. Thank you so much for reviewing!
