So I think there’s many ways that you could characterize Roger Davies given how little information we have about him—I loved that you made him awkwardly charming and sort of just a regular guy? I’d imagine that he might be popular and cocky given that he’s a Quidditch Captain, but he seems so likable and I honestly wanted to hug him tightly and have him take -me- out on a date.
I really liked Fleur’s impact on him. I wonder how much of his liking of her is due to the fact that she’s a Veela—though if his attraction to her is entirely based on the fact that she’s a Veela, that would really make sense.
In general, this was a super sweet fic and again, I just love Roger. Well done! <3
We know barely anything about Roger Davies in the books, except for that he’s Fleur’s date to the ball and was a quidditch captain. Between those things I kind of expected him to be popular and confident, but I like that you’ve given him some insecurity and nerves. Who wouldn’t be nervous with Fleur as a date!
And what Roger does manage to say sounds very normal and not all as awkward as I would be! XD But that also suggests to me that he has some insecurities beyond just the nerves for this date, which makes me more interested in him as a character. Good job setting that up with so few words!
I hope he had a good night =) And Fleur too!
Dropping by to leave you a bit of review love!
So I'm not sure I've ever read a story about Roger Davies as a main character. This might be a first.
I like that he's so enamoured by Fleury because of her vela charms, but he still recognizes that she must be brave and intelligent as well. I mean without intelligence, how could she be the Beauxbatons champion?
I think it's sweet that he put so much effort into thinking of clever things to say to her. It shows that he sincerely cares. And then the fact that his brain goes to mush anyway, so he just sits back and enjoys revealing in her glory. It makes me like him a lot more.
You know, I don't think that I've ever read a story about Roger Davies before? I actually found myself feeling pretty sorry for him here - it can't be nice to have your brain turn to mush every time that you're around someone you want to impress, especially when there's nothing you can do to combat the effects. It feels like an unfair advantage, really (and makes me wonder how Bill got on, especially if Fleur was trying to impress him :P)
I really liked the title you chose here, the English translation of Fleur's name. It tied in well with the story, and evoked some great images of the medieval court and the beauties that everyone noticed and wanted to dance with. That fit in well with the idea of the Yule Ball at Hogwarts, the medieval castle, with Roger so happy at being the one who's accompanying Fleur to the ball.
I could easily imagine Roger spending his nights not sleeping, but instead thinking up witty replies to things that Fleur might say to him, or bits of knowledge he could drop into the conversation to try and impress her. And after all of his hard work, the most intelligent thing he manages to say all night is a greeting. At least he was happy being her date at the ball, I suppose, even if he did embarrass himself a bit!
