Hey Sam!

I know this is an old fic but I can’t resist Alicia Spinnet! I love this character of Healer Janice for the Appleby Arrows -- she’s clearly very well trained for her job but is also nervous with the potential stakes at play with the match being the quarterfinals and it being her first official day alone working and all. You do a great job of setting up the scene and the nervousness of Healer Janice, and once the action (so to speak) comes into the tent we don’t lose the manic of Healer Janice as more and more people flood the tent. Also what a lovely bunch of poly people!! I’m *so* here for Percy/Oliver already plus Katie/Alicia so adding in Audrey to the mix is just *chef’s kiss* perfecto. You captured everyone’s voices beautifully and end the fic nicely. Loved it, Sam! <3

Sam XD I started this not realizing it was going to be a humorous piece. I mean, there's blood and injuries and stuff and I didn't read the tags before diving in. And then as poor Alicia sits there with her face bleeding, Healer Janice gets more and more confused by the web of lovers here and quite honestly it's amusing :P What an exciting first day for her on her solo Healing! :P All she wants is a little peace and quiet to heal Alicia's injury, but every time she's about to do something, another one of Alicia's concerned girlfriends or her girlfriends' lovers show up to make sure Alicia is all right, and she can't kick them all out so it just builds into chaos. I loved the way you gradually revealed the complex relationship dynamics, and with it Janice's confusion - she's so distracted by trying to figure out the relationships :P But the funniest part is the fact that at the end of this story Alicia's nose is STILL bleeding. :P

(just so you know - it it does hop into present tense in the middle, which I doubt was intentional. Maybe something to look at if you edit someday)

I loved this! This was such a fun read.

(Quick note: in your title, you spelled “Alicia” as “Alica.” I kept trying to search for this story by typing the title, but nothing showed up, so in the end I found it by scrolling through the list of all your stories.)

I think that I definitely benefited from not checking the relationship tags before reading this. (It just made the reading experience so much funnier by not understanding the relationship dynamics between everyone.) I saw “Polyamory” and thought it would be something similar to When I Go Out With You, albeit shorter, but this story was distinctly different. I really liked the humor in this! Light and happy and fluffy.

I’d imagine Janice is basically everyone who’s unfamiliar with polyamory. Her confusion was really, really funny. Initially, I thought the polyamorous relationship would be Alicia/Katie/Oliver, but nope, yours was better. It never even occurred to me that Percy, our well-known idiotic stickler for traditional rules, would be  involved in a polyamorous relationship, so that was great.

I had good laughs reading this one. <3

Hi, Sam!

I love what you did here. It's like Vaudeville style comedy with a social message attached.

Poor Alicia! She just wants her nose fixed, and person after person keeps walking through that tent flap, bringing progress to a halt. At the same time, she's trying to be accommodating to all of her worried romantic partners. She's in a tough spot, and you wrote her reactions well.

Having the healer be a novice was a good idea. An older, more experienced healer would probably have been more focused to the task at hand and less vulnerable to distractions.

Overall, a neat piece that shines a light on a complex situation driven by a polyamorous life. I could see this becoming another battlefront for civil rights now that the silliness over same-sex spouses and their rights to make medical decisions for their loved ones has been resolved by the SCOTUS.

Good job!

Author's Response:

Hello! Thanks for stopping by and reviewing!

I really like your comment about it being Vaudeville style. I had never thought about it like that before,, but I can see why you'd say that/

I wasn't particularly trying to write a social message into the story, just to give a glimpse ino these people and their relationships, but I am glad that you found it interesting.

Sadly, I don't see this civil rights issue as something that will be resolved any time soon. Our society's awareness just isn't there yet, even just among liberal groups who are firm supporters of civil rights issues. For the time being, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that same sex couples retain their hard fought rights.

Again, thanks very much for the review!
