Story:Before the Dawn Chapter: Volume 1.1

Heyyy! Here for our swap! <3

It’s been a while since I’ve read a dark Marauders story, so this was definitely something relatively new for me! I’m not usually an angst reader (though if you look at my AP, I feel like there’s a disproportionate amount of angst) but I do enjoy a good angst fic every now and then. Sometimes I just like to feel sad, you know what I mean? :P

This was a super interesting beginning. I’m really curious to find out what the plotline of the overall story is! The set-up was so fascinating, and I can’t help but wonder where the story will go. The thing that struck me most about this first chapter was how quickly Lily seemed to turn against Snape and fall for James. I’m a huge Jily shipper, and I actually kind of dislike Snape lol, but Lily was so intense and so committed towards her actions that I found her kind of frightening (not in a bad way, though!). It’s such a unique take on Lily, and it makes me super curious to read on more about her.

I wonder why Lily would use Dark magic so easily? Of course, throughout the Harry Potter books, we see “good” characters use the Unforgivable Curses, and perhaps if Lily was threatened or infuriated to the point where she could only see red and was unable to think straight, I could buy her using Unforgivable after Unforgivable. But at the moment, I’m not quite understanding her motivations, especially since she seems to be around sixteen at the moment. I think it was implied that Lily was angered by James’s abuse, as she very well should be, but it’s interesting that James is what causes Lily to become so murderous. I’d think she’d want to do it for her own sake, after Snape mistreated her.

But I trust that you know what you’re doing, as the author, and so I really am curious to see how you take this darker side of Lily and spin it in a new way!

The last scene is actually really sweet. I always love a good James/Lily scene, and this one was no exception. I love that she almost bumped into him, and that he uncovered her Disillusionment Charm! And the almost-kiss, omg.

Great chapter!

This is my first review on this site,

Hello, I'm here for the swap.

I don't usually read very dark stories. I tend to focus on light hearted stuff like fluff.

Lily using dark curses wow. This must be very serious. I usually read her as a 'good girl" maybe at most swearing at James.

I really like the look inside in Lily's head.

Hey, there! :)

Here for our swap!

No, wait... what?! Lily Evans using dark curses?! Are you Sirius?! (Sorry, can't resist the pun,,,)

But really, I can't believe Lily doing this. I mean, I love a different take on a character and you definitely surprised me. And I absolutely love what you tried to convey, Lily's rage at seeing James in that state, her strenght and power and how she's been underestimated because of her gender and her blood status... and also that while we always think of Lily as flawless, that isn't verosimilar... I really appreciate all of this (I still have trouble imagining Lily in this light, though... but I'm going to trust you)

Your writing style is so good, you have such great description and your pacing is soooo good. You are also so good at writing action, I find it so tricky so I'm doubly impressed. :) I was maybe just slightly confused about who was doing what, but only in very brief moments, so never mind... :P

My favourite part, though, was the second section. I loved the glimspe into Lily's head, the way she goes through everything and her realization that she is in love with James. (I am a big Jily shipper, in case you were wondering...) That moment with James at the end was so sweet...

Good job with this, it's quite a heavy first chapter, but I guess it's great that we jumped into action so soon and I think you wrote everything really well. :)

Thank you for the swap!
