He would rather watch the castle fall than fall himself; and you knew that if he wished it, that was what would happen. The founders were a whole, however much he contested it, and three quarters weren't good enough.

Every year, a Slytherin student gets lost in the maze of corridors in the dungeons, trying to find the common room. Perhaps for Slytherins, a sense of direction is even more important than ambition and greed.

Sirius decided to leave the Auror Division in 1983.
Looking back, Harry would remember his third year at Hogwarts as, well, remarkably normal compared to everything that happened all the other years of his schooling. Remus would remember it as the best year of his life. Sirius would remember that time Dumbledore walked in on him and Remus in a compromising position.
Absolutely nothing of consequence happened in the 1993-94 school year. It was perfect.

Lily's words had haunted her since she had found out what they were. Usually, last words didn't give many clues as to the circumstances they were said in, but how much ambiguity could there be in "I'll hold him off"?
She would be the cause of someone's death and she couldn't bear it.
Anthony Goldstein, Ministry Prosecutor, has to prosecute a case involving neo-Death Eaters and the Imperius Curse ten years after the war ends. There's something more to it, though, and he can't get the Auror division to investigate -- so he's going to have to take it into his own hands.
a story about Jewish law, Wizarding law and moral law.
In which Albus has an identity crisis about a possible interest that could threaten his entire perception of self and also discovers he's gay.
In which Scorpius plans a new life in the Pacific, Albus is so nervous he forgets his own name, and there is a life-size cardboard cutout of Viktor Krum.
[can be read as a standalone]

Albus is certain that he is his parents' least favourite child. James is a star quidditch player and Lily is some kind of Potions whiz with more friends than she knows what to do with.
So obviously his only option is to piss them off, if he can't please them. And what would piss them off most? Coming home and pretending Scorpius Malfoy is his boyfriend.
It's only for two weeks, what could happen?

Sirius Black was ready to go murder Peter Pettigrew until he realised that Harry had survived the attack on Godric's Hollow. He was Harry's godfather, and why should he let Dumbledore overrule the Potters' will?
If a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound? If two people love each other in private, is the survivor allowed to claim the public status of primary mourner? If no one speaks a truth out loud, is it still true?
a sequel to two certainties for Margaret's Angst Alone challenge.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
I stared at where the wedding photo used to be, trying not to think of this as the last time I would sleep in this bed. The last time I would see this room. The last time I would sleep next to my wife. No, it wouldn't be the last time, because I would come back. That was the whole point of leaving, wasn't it?

You wouldn't find it in the Talmud, per se, let alone the Torah, but Wizarding Jewry doesn't obliviate people, and Hermione has broken the law.
Winning the battle does not mean you have won the war - but at twelve, is there really a difference? Severus Snape bested Sirius Black once, in their Second Year. Lily Evans is of the opinion that if he had just listened to her, it wouldn't have happened. And James Potter still stands by the fact that cleaning toilets isn't the worst detention he's had.

Narcissa Black did not deal well with change. It made her an ideal daughter - she would do what she had been taught, because it was all she knew - but it did not serve her well when she tried to change herself.

The pain would always be there, and her eyes would always be boring into him, trying to find the answers he didn't have.

"You worry too much, Cissa - if you keep frowning like that, you'll have wrinkles."
Narcissa Black has got the guy, but that doesn't stop her worrying - about what her mother will think, about what will happen when they leave school, about pureblood supremacy... It's all quite justified, really. Yet Frank Longbottom won't have a bit of it.

There were only three things in this world that made Lily want to pull out her hair: her brother James, cold showers in the morning, and people who tapped their quills. Quickly though, she was realising there might be a fourth.

You know that if you look back you will be turned into a pillar of salt, but like Lot's wife, you are imperfect and you sin just as much as the rest of them.

Where's the new world that would rise up after the war? Where's the idealistic views we all had of a post-Voldemort Great Britain? Why do I still sit here, sipping an almost empty glass just to see you smile? Does anything ever change?
