Reading Challenge 2020

Recommended Posts

MalfoysAngel

With the dawn of 2020, rises a new reading challenge!

Like last year, there's no set goal! Set your individual reading goals for the year, and share your progress with the rest of us! We're all here to cheer each other on!

Post a list of your goals AND/OR books read AND/OR currently reading AND/OR to read!

The goals don't just have to be number-based - if you want to read more books in translation this year, for example, share (and inspire :wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:)!

Double posting is allowed, but please wait a few days before posting any update of your ongoing list.

Happy reading, fellow 2020-ers! :bouncing:

Ooo.....a shiny new thread!

I'd like to spend more time reading this year and less time scrolling social media. One thing I have noticed is that writing has cut into my reading time--but so has social media...and since I don't want to cut back on the one, I'm going to do my best to cut back on the other. I have no idea how many books I actually finish in a year because I always read more than one at a time (just like I write more than one book at a time...) so I'll go with a goal of 24 books this year and revise later if needed.

Goals:

-read more/social media less

-0/24 books read

Currently Reading:

  • Brainspotting by David Grand
  • The Anatomy of Melancholy by Robert Burton
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JKR
  • Frederica by Georgette Heyer
  • Revelations of Divine Love by Dame Julian of Norwich
  • Lady Susan by Jane Austen
  • The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
  • Acedia and Me by Kathleen Norris

My goal is to read every day this year. I'm not counting how many books I read but I'll keep track of how many days I read this year.

I might have broken a new record by only finishing three books - I'd like to do better in 2020 :P

Goal:
one book per month - 0/12 read
more sci-fi!

currently reading:
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

to-read:
The Humans by Matt Haig
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
Lanny by Max Porter

Imma try to hit 40 books again this year - it felt so good to read so much again last year, and it meant I could get to a nice variety of books which was so good ^_^ I'm also trying to be more aware about what I'm reading - male vs female authors, queer vs straight authors/stories, poc authors and stories - but I'm not going to have a specific goal for that because I'm going to need to buy some more books to really get to that, unfortunately :/

Read:

  1. L'Ecole des femmes, by Moliere

Currently Reading:

  1. Un concert d'enfers, by Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine
  2. The Silk Roads, by Peter Frankopan

Unwritten Curse

I didn’t do a good job of updating the Reading Challenge thread last year. But my one and only “resolution” this year is to read more... so with that said, here we go!

My Goals:

  1. Read 30 books
  2. Read more diverse books
  3. Listen to 1 audio book per month

Currently Reading: The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline

My 2020 reading goal is to read one short story every day (can be flash fiction or something super short), and read more long form stuff! Basically read, read, read with the hope that I can get more inspiration for my writing! ^_^

I really enjoyed getting back to reading last year. And look! I have already finished one book.

Read

1. In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado

Social media is something I'm really trying to cut down on too -- I've started setting myself limits on my phone for apps etc and it's made a significant difference for how much I am on my phone on a daily basis!

I've never done the reading challenge before, but I'm really trying to expand my book collection (physical and kindle-edition) and broaden my horizons in terms of what I'm reading, so I figured I'd turn to HPFT to help keep me on track for that! I am also going through advancement to candidacy for my PhD program this spring (theoretically, at least) so I really need to get on top of reading journal papers for that! Therefore...

Goals:

  • Read at least 1-2 books a month
    • re-read the HP books at some point as well
  • Read at least 2 academic papers a week

Books Read:

  • Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
  • The Toll (Arc of a Scythe #3) by Neal Shusterman

Currently Reading:

  • The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
  • Becoming by Michelle Obama

I've had a reading goal of 50 books for the last few years and struggled to hit that lately (I tend to start out pretty well and then fade off at the end of the year), so I've revised my goal to 25 books this year.  I got some great books for my birthday/Christmas, so I want to get through most of them.  More general reading goals (though without specific numbers, because I don't want to beat myself for not reading certain things if I'm not in the mood for them) include reading some more non-fiction for fun (as opposed to for my MA last year) and reading more diverse books.

Read:

1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

2. Letter to My Younger Self by Jane Graham (eds)

3. Sunny Side Up: A Story of Kindness and Joy by Susan Calman

4. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

5. Dumped, Actually by Nick Spalding

Currently Reading:

6. History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

I've never posted a reading challenge, but I really want to read more. I used to never be seen without my nose buried in a book, but I hardly read at all last year. I'm not putting a book count on it as I'll no doubt be disappointed by the end of the year! Instead, I'll maybe do a monthly round up which seems much more manageable. Also, I'd like to branch out a bit and read out of my comfort zone a bit more.

Due to the old mental health taking a bit of a plunge lately, I've been gifted a couple of mindful and meditation-type books to get stuck into, which are definitely out of my usual TBR list!

Currently reading:

1. Mindfulness For Mums - Izzy Judd

2. The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse - Charlie Mackesy

Next on the list:

Little Women - Louisa May Alcott

800 words of heaven

I haven't been able to read every day because some days I get home and I'm exhausted, and it's just so much easier to watch Bollywood song videos on YouTube. So a new goal is to be kinder to myself when I choose to not read and do something else, instead

Read:
1) The Bookworm Crush - Liso Brown Roberts
32) Love Lettering - Kate Clayborn
35) Diana: Princess of the Amazons - Shannon Hale & Dean Hale
47) Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys: The Case of the Missing Adults! - Scott Bryan Wilson
48) The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire, Part Two - Michael Dante DiMartino
