EMMA. I LOVE?? THIS? SO MUCH?? It’s so funny! You captured the wholesomeness between Aziraphale and Crowley so well, and through this iconic reign of terror over plants, no less! The tweet that inspired this was already laugh-out-loud hilarious, but you turned it into a piece of comedic genius omg. The time spent on the buildup, when Crowley grows irrationally fond of the plant is perfect! I got so attached to the plant myself, and figuratively almost spat out my water when Crowley discovered it was fake.

Something that really tickles me is how Crowley’s theory was that the plant was so lovely simply because of the goodness of Aziraphale’s heart and hope sdfskl. TRULY, could he be ANY more smitten! Who is this demon kidding himself!

This was the funniest thing I have read in ages omg. I loved it! So much!

(I bet Crowley is now going to treasure that lemon tree like his own firstborn now. Perhaps even more, knowing Crowley.)

Love,
Eva

Hello, my most beloved friend! I... did not know that this story existed. Which is a shame, because although I have still not watched Good Omens (RIP), I did read some wonderful fanfic of it thanks to you, and now I am knowledgeable enough to read MORE fanfic of it BY you!

The idea of Crowley trying to terrorize a bunch of plants is so weirdly charming. I know (I think?) that that comes from canon, but I thought you portrayed it really well. I honestly cackled at the idea of him parading this wonderful plant around to show all his other plants how inadequate they were. It's just so ridiculous in the most charming and almost... sweet? sort of way.

These two... are DORKS. I cannot deal with Aziraphale coming over to visit and being all chuffed at how well the plant is doing, and then the two of them bickering over whether plants should have names (and if so, what those names should be).

I'm losing it at "a jolly good generalised terrorizing", I really do take it for granted what a brilliant writer you are. You are just so. Clever! And witty!

And then - the big reveal! Just - OH NO! Aziraphale I did not expect this level of mischief from you, omfg. I cannot BELIEVE! The BETRAYAL of it all!

Emma, I had so much fun reading this! You have such a talent for taking these relatively simple and straightforward concepts, and breathing so much FUN and LIFE into them! I really loved the way you characterized both Aziraphale and Crowley, too. Love these dorks, love you! Wonderful job!

Love always,

Kayla <3

Hiya Emma! :)

Emma, emma, emma, why would you do this to me with this fic?!? It’s so perfectly *them* I can’t handle it! Of course Aziraphale decides to gift Crowley a plant, because that’s what boyfriends do and especially because Aziraphale has enough of a sneaky sneak in him that he can get away with such a trick as this without Crowley catching a whiff of it. What I love too is your choice of plant in a guiana chestnut because they’re such a hardy and pretty houseplant. I also like that it’s commonly known as a “money tree” which you can take how you want. :P You have really captured Crowley’s character so well in this piece, and especially his love of yelling at his plants to make them grow better, and also his reasoning behind doing such a thing. And then you got into the whole naming plants thing when Aziraphale was over for a visit, and I love the needling that he does to Crowley -- it’s so typical of their relationship, and kind of flips the script with Aziraphale being the one who is doing the needling and *tempting*, as one would say, rather than Crowley.

This “mass terrifying” session that Crowley did sounds absolutely amazing, and I would definitely love to see a little outtake fic with just that content because I just feel in my bones that you could write him doing this yelling with such a Shakespearean tint to it. Crowley’s absolute rage at finding out the plant is FAKE and effing plastic is equal parts hilarious and silly because Aziraphale knew exactly what he was doing in the first place. His refusal to back down about what he did even when Crowley goes all menacing on him at Madame Tracy’s is priceless and shows that our dearest angel has grown a bit more of a backbone since the end of the world was avoided. I just love the detail too of Aziraphale having tea with Madame Tracy every week, that’s so in character for him. The inspiration for this fic coming from the tweet you mention in your author’s note at the end is great and I am so glad you wrote this piece, Emma! Absolutely wonderful job on this, please keep writing and posting Good Omens fic to the archives because I will read it! :)

CMDC Round 3

Hi Emma! I’m here for CMDC Round 3 :D

This story made me laugh out loud! The slow build up as we watch Crowley and his perfect plant. I loved that he rules his plants through fear and how he yells at them until they tremble and how he went around showing them the perfect plant that Aziraphale had given him and informing them he expected them to be like it.

And then the fact that the whole time that perfect plant was a fake—and he never noticed!! No wonder his other plants are…perhaps not in the best shape. Perhaps Crowley is not quite as good a gardener as he thinks??

I loved the play out too—how Crowley is bemoaning the fact that none of his plants will respect him again, and how they are all laughing at him (and of course, they are).

But the hilarity of the joke and the harshness of the blow was softened by Aziraphale’s explaining that he had just wanted Crowley to be happy. And that, for those four months, Crowley was. It was a really heart warming ending.

Yours,

Noelle

Howdy!

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was a tale of hilarity in the end. It was quite interesting the way you made the whole thing work primarily through the use of the plant tending device. While I'm not sure if that itself is part of the show, I thought the way that Crowley acted toward the plants was appropriate for a demon. He seemed to place a bizarrely limited on plants for someone who 'cares' for them on a daily basis. Perhaps he only considers the plants for their utility because he's the snake? And snakes like hiding under plants?

Either way, I also thought it was interesting to see the angel trolling the demon for once. Often in movies, books, etc. we see the demons on that end of things - either directly with angels or other divine beings - or with unwitting human victims so it was nice to see the reverse happen.

You may have even inspired me to check out the show for the comedy value if nothing else. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Emma,

this is going to be a no context review because I just googled this fandom because it's not one that I've come across before. I thought it was very cute little fic though. I like how you've written the relationship between the characters, they seem to be quite chalk and cheese characters to each other. It seems like they have a playful relationship as such.

I really liked the dialogue between them, I'm personally totally with the guy who wants to name the plants because that's totally something I would do. I think I can relate to him more haha. I think I found myself having a little giggle at him being so indignate about looking after a fake plant! I think this guy seems to have a flare for the dramatic. I love how you've built up his reaction throughout the fic until he is basically exploding at the end. Poor bloke. I do enjoy the humour in his 'obsession' though. I think this was quite a fun read even without context honestly. I think your writing (especially dialogue) was really vivid and the craziness of emotion was very clear!

perhaps I need to catch this show because the characters seem fun and very animated from your portrayals! thanks for sharing this!

omg i don't remember if i ever chuckled so much at a fic about plants hahaha. well, not that i read many fics about plants but still.

this was absolutely brilliant and i loved it. the whole idea (tweet) behind this is so laughable that i love the fact that you just went ahead and wrote an entire fic about it. crowley and his plants are one of the things i've always loved about his character (among many many others, but this one is among the funniest :P ).

but the cuteness and adorableness of aziraphale awww *_* but also! he's showing a little bit of his wicked-crowley-influenced side with the fake plant. but it's still cute. and adorable.

i feel like i could read about crowley, aziraphale and plants forever, i really do.

awesome fic! *_*
